Our client is a civil engineering, construction, and project Management Company
involved in roads and bridges design, construction and rehabilitation in Nigeria.  They require a Financial Controller to be based in Abuja.

Duties

  • Re-Structure Accounting Departments policies & procedures.
  • Prepare the annual initial and revised Operating and Capital Budgets through:
  • Checking of information; Discussing with concerned Departments; Consolidating data into budget packages; Submitting to management for review, revising on a quarterly basis; Presenting final budget for approval of partners.
  • Continually analyse the actual operating expenditures versus budget, including preparing comparisons, determining and analysing the variance in conjunction with the Department Heads, preparing report on variances, informing accounts section of adjustments required, and summarising the final result for management control purposes.
  • Check the authorisation for expenditure, as well as checking that any request for expenditure is in line with the budget, that it is being charged to the correct accounts, and that it is signed by the authorised personnel. Oversee and direct the treasury, budgeting, tax, accounting, purchases and long range forecasting.
  • Manage the treasury functions, and prepare weekly treasury statements.
  • Verify all payments’ processes ensuring that all payments are checked for proper authorisation and validity of payment and that the required process is adhered to.
  • Monitor the long-term loans, manage the long-term financial account including requisitioning necessary funding or payments, and reimbursing the funds received from lifting against the company’s loan accounts.
  • Direct his subordinates in adhering to the company procedures and computer application systems necessary to maintain proper records and to afford proper accounting.
  • Appraises the company’s financial position and issues periodic reports on the company’s financial stability, liquidity and growth.
  • Coordinate tax reporting programs and investor relation activities.
  • Analyse, consolidate and direct all cost accounting procedures together with other statistical and routine reports.
  • Oversee and direct the preparation and issuance of the annual report.
  • Direct and analyse economic, business and financial studies, reporting on conditions and their impact on the company’s policies and operations.
  • Supervise the supplier account functions, reviewing all inward/outward correspondence.
  • Plan and supervise the recruitment and training of new employees within the Accounts Department.
  • Prepare the annual appraisal of the subordinates performance and recommendations for promotions, while determining new objectives and necessary courses of action.
  • Perform hedging operations when required.
  • Review and correct the cost centres. Also, review and approve the monthly profit and loss statement and balance sheet.
  • Prepare monthly projection in terms of sources and usage of funds including monthly planning to cover any shortage in funds. As well as monthly analysis of project cost and measurement of corrections in conjunction with the Cost Control Department.
  • Initiate and manage the outsourcing of activities in accounting and finance for the company.
Qualifications/Experience Required
  • Bachelor Degree in accounting and/or finance. An MBA is a plus.
  • CPA or equivalent is required for the post.
  • 10 years experience, 5 of which will have been in a similar position.
  • Thorough knowledge of international accounting systems and procedures.
