The House of Representatives has called on the Executive to declare a state of emergency on unemployment in Nigeria.
The declaration was one of the resolutions reached by the House on a
motion sponsored by the Majority Leader, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila and 78
other members on Tuesday.
The House of Representatives had
mandated the Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity to hold a
stakeholders’ public hearing with a view to providing legislative
intervention for unemployment in the country.
The committee is
also expected to conduct an audit of all foreign nationals working in
Nigeria in order to determine whether or not any private or public
organization has illegally engaged the services of a foreigner to the
detriment of Nigerian citizens.
