Job Title: Community Mobilization & BCC Officer - Maternity Cover

Location: Zamfara
Role Purpose
  • Coordinate, monitor and supervise the community based promotion and mobilization activities related to the infant and young child feeding and Nutrition Behavioral change.
Key Areas of Accountability
Objective 1:

  • Organise Stakeholders participation, sensitisation and advocacy
  • Coordinating the development of communications materials and participate in their review and comment on print and electronic media materials including scripts, posters, leaflets, video/audio recordings. This also includes working with KM/communication coordinator in development of programme case studies and documentaries.
  • Work with the Advocacy and mobilization Advisor, State team leader (STL) and other technical program staff to conduct BCC needs assessment and assist with designing, pre-testing and finalizing drafts of BCC materials under the guidance and direction of the social protection advisor
  • Develop good knowledge of state and local government structures, parliamentary and political processes, traditional and religious structure and any other key decision making structures and how to influence them.
  • Undertake a range of lobbying, communications and other activities to inform and persuade policy makers, religious/traditional leaders, community members, donors and politicians, of the value of social protection in the state.
  • Ensure Save the Children visibility and acceptance in the state and LGAs
  • Ensure strong link with state, local government and community stakeholders
  • Work closely with Health and Nutrition Advisor to design and deliver communications interventions that facilitate behaviour change amongst target groups across the focal LGAs
  • Support and mentor community mobilization assistants to carry out their activities on community sensitization, mobilization, IYCF and Nutrition BCC activities
  • Lead on planning and implementation of feedback mechanisms with leaders, communities and beneficiaries
  • Keep records of supervision and actions taken from own activities and activities of the CMA
  • Link with other organisations present in the area
  • Plan logistics and materials needs for the activities to be carried out
  • Be responsible for the strengthening and coordination of complain and response mechanism (CRM) activities
  • Relationship building negotiation and problem solving with authorities, communities and Mobilizers/Volunteers
Objective 2:
  • Monitoring and evaluation of Community Mobilisation and Nutrition BCC activities
  • Prepare a monthly plan or field activities
  • Produce case studies related to CM, at least one per quarter or as per line manager’s request
  • Identify the problems in the implementation process and propose solutions
  • Evaluate regularly the impact of the activities and propose changes for improvement
  • Ensure timely collection, compilation and analysis of quality data as well as production of quantitative and qualitative reports regarding all CM activities (by SC staff and CV)
Skills and & Experience
Administrative & General Skills:
  • At least 3 years of experience on community mobilization
  • Previous experience with other local and international NGOs
  • Ability to work within a team setting
  • Independence, adaptability and flexibility
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Working Conditions
  • Ability and willingness to travel to projects and stay in basic conditions when necessary
  • Prepare activities’ reports.
  • Experience in Nutrition and community based programmes,
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in English and Hausa, spoken and written
  • Ability to work in partnership with government and other NGO’s staff
  • Good interpersonal skills
