NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, emergency food security, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors. We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: WaSH Assistant Location: Dikwa, Borno Reports to: WaSH Officer Generic Responsibilities These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work and Development plan:

  • Implement and maintain NRC’s shelter procedures and guidelines
  • Ensure adherence to NRC’s policies and procedures
  • Ensure a that the beneficiaries and community are involved in the project implementation
  • Implement and maintain a filing system for all project documents according to procedures
  • Ensure that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures
  • Participate in the selection of beneficiaries and training for beneficiaries
  • Performs any other duties as requested by the supervisor
Specific Responsibilities The WaSH Technical Assistant is expected to achieve the following during this contract period:
  • To assist WASH TECHNICAL officer in coordination of the WASH TECHNICAL activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans
  • To assist the WASH TECHNICAL officer in all aspects of WASH Technical programs planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • To assist in the identification of community water and sanitation needs
  • To develop technical specifications and bills of quantities (BOQ) for works
  • To assess the water and sanitation training needs of the community and assists in the development of appropriate training materials and plans
  • Conducts water quality testing and sanitary inspection at water points
  • Provides technical assistance to the WASH TECHNICAL officer and local counterparts on issues of water and sanitation information and communication strategies
  • Assists in the establishment, and training of water point committees as well as monitoring their performance
  • Assists in the compilation of weekly and monthly WASH Technical reports, program documents, project proposals, and budgets
  • Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities
  • Assist WASH TECHNICAL officer in Breaking down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly and quarterly implementation plans
  • To assist in ensuring that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures
  • Performs any other duties as requested by the WASH TECHNICAL officer.
  • Monitoring NFI distribution within the communities.
  • Assist in site planning activities for Water and sanitation activities implementation.
  • Supervise and contribute to the success of WASH TECHNICAL activities implementation.
  • Performs any other duties as requested by WASH TECHNICAL officer
Qualifications
  • B.Sc or Higher Diploma in Civil, Water Resources Engineering or Geology
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience from working with WASH TECHNICAL projects in a humanitarian/recovery context. Experience from working with social work and/or with distribution of humanitarian assistance is an advantage.
  • Previous years’ work experience in community based water, Sanitation programs; Work experience with an NGO is desirable
  • Must have knowledge of emergency Water supply, Hygiene, Sanitation requirements and protocols
  • Familiarity with international minimum standards of Hygiene, Sanitation and shelter service delivery (i.e., SPHERE) is an advantage
  • Must have previous experience in training and Training of Trainers.
  • Excellent communication skills - written and spoken - in English required.
  • Fluency in one or more of the national/regional languages (Hausa and Kanuri preferred)
  • Must be willing to work as a team member, take direction, and share technical skills with colleagues and counterparts
  • Computer literacy in word processing and spreadsheets is required,
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, GPS, ArcGIS and Google Earth is strongly desirable
  • Must be able to work under pressure

  • Relevant experience in WaSH and knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel Powerpoint).

Job Title: Shelter Assistant Location: Maiduguri, Borno Generic Responsibilities These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work and Development plan:
  • Implement and maintain NRC’s shelter procedures and guidelines
  • Ensure adherence to NRC’s policies and procedures
  • Ensure a that the beneficiaries and community are involved in the project implementation
  • Implement and maintain a filing system for all project documents according to procedures
  • Ensure that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures
  • Participate in the selection of beneficiaries and training for beneficiaries

  • Provide support to supervisors and staffs to develop the skills and capabilities of staffs.
  • To assist in the identification of community Shelter and NFIs needs
  • To develop technical specifications and bills of quantities (BOQ) for Shelter construction/repair
  • To assess the shelter construction training needs of the community and assists in the development of appropriate training materials and plans
  • Trains and supervises the activities of community based shelter technicians and masons
  • Assists in the compilation of weekly and monthly Shelter reports, program documents, project proposals, and budgets
  • Ensure adherence to NRC policies and donor requirements
  • Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities
  • Prepare periodic progress reports and other documents as required
Specific Responsibilities The Shelter Assistant is expected to achieve the following during this contract period:
  • Work with his line manager to ensure volunteer and construction schedule is accurate and achievable.
  • Ensure timely delivery of construction materials.
  • Supervise the construction of shelter and other infrastructure are in line with the approved design and bill of quantities.
  • Responsible for managing carpenters working on his assigned shelter
  • Responsible for training and on job coaching carpenters and IDPs participating in the construction
  • Responsible for ensuring Construction Crews/carpenters leaders adhere to all policies and procedures
  • Provide construction leadership as needed to ensure the project schedule is met in a safe environment and in a quality manner.
  • Patriciate in site planning as required. Ensure that all NRC job sites are in full compliance with Shelter Working Group guidance.
  • Perform other duties as required by program needs and requested by PDM.
  • Timely reporting, on a weekly and monthly basis, (identifying gaps, risks and bottlenecks that can obstruct proper implementation of activities)
  • Ensure documentation of project progress is ongoing
  • Prepare documentation for final handover and closure of project.

Job Title: Shelter Assistant Location: Dikwa, Borno, Monguno, Borno, Damasak Project Summary/Job Description
  • In light of the displacement in the north eastern part of Nigeria, NRC is about to start up an emergency response programme in Nigeria to respond to the humanitarian needs.
  • In the coming months, the main focus for NRC would be conflict affected populations including IDPs, returnees and the local communities in Borno State.
  • NRC will initially be starting activities in the area of food security, water and sanitation and shelter/NFI sectors. NRC is therefore seeking a Shelter Assistant in Dikwa, Nigeria.
  • The Shelter Assistant reports to the Shelter Officer.
