  • iMMAP has started a program to support the response to the ongoing crisis in Nigeria by strengthening the IM capacity of clusters' members in their response; advance the mechanism for regularly identifying needs of populations and to provide better data to the inter-coordination mechanism led by UN-OCHA.
  • The target beneficiaries of this program are humanitarian partners (which are all sectors members) and the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs [UNOCHA] in its inter-cluster support role.
Purpose of the Position
  • The Capacity Building Officer will be responsible for leading the institutional capacity building of the humanitarian partners in Nigeria, and will work closely with sectors' partners to identify IM capacity gaps, build and deliver series of tailored IM knowledge transfer workshops, and provide one-on-one support to respond to the identified needs.
  • These workshops will gather participants from the NGOs, government and other stakeholders involved in the country's humanitarian response. They will focus on simple but efficient and useful IM tools and skill sets needed for effective data collection, analysis and reporting.
Role
  • Under the direct supervision of iMMAP Program Manager, the successful candidate is responsible for providing capacity building activities such as workshops and learning sessions on information management tools to humanitarian organizations and clusters working in Nigeria.
  • This role will assist in the development of the overall iMMAP strategy in enhancing collection, analysing and publishing information products under the current program.
Key Responsibilities, Tasks & Outputs Capacity Building for Information Management:
  • Design and conduct surveys to assess capacity and training needs of humanitarian organizations in the Northeast response;
  • Develop or identify training content or supporting resources such as presentations, practical exercises, and other supporting material;
  • Conduct training evaluations for feedback and the identification of areas of improvement;
  • Liaise with other iMMAP capacity building programmes and ensure consistency and standardization of activities and material where possible;
  • Facilitate staff's ability to use existing and emerging technology to achieve organization's mission and objectives;
  • Train and provide technical support to the identified staff as needed on all Information Management tools and processes;
  • Provide mentorship and support within the scope of iMMAP capacity building plan;
  • Develop goals and objectives for capacity building programmes targeting humanitarian organizations and based on identified organizational needs;
  • Design and develop capacity building curriculums, syllabi, and training workshops;
  • Organize and facilitate core and advanced IM trainings;
  • Research, identify and develop new trainings on emerging tools and innovative humanitarian technologies that can improve efficiency of humanitarian organizations using information systems;
  • Any other duties as required.
Critical Interfaces:
  • Closely coordinate and collaborate with all iMMAP IMOs in the country, on collating training requirements for INGOs, government counterparts, stakeholders, developing training materials and engaging partners located in Borno and Adamawa states (INGOs, Humanitarian stakeholders, etc);
  • Comprehensive Capacity Building/Training Plan based on identified training needs for humanitarian organizations and NGOs working in the Northeast Nigeria;
  • High quality training materials for workshops;
  • Facilitation of training sessions to Humanitarian partners;
  • Monitoring of training outcomes and identification of further training needs
Output:
  • Relevant university degree or equivalent experience, preferably in information management;
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience and a background in non-profit, internationally-focused organizations with capacity building emphasizing information management;
  • Experience with designing and creating easy-to-use training contents for a range of humanitarian partners;
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in needs assessments, data management, mapping and visualization coaching and training.;
  • Thorough knowledge of the UN cluster system and how it operates. Experience in the recovery and resilience is desirable;
