We are recruiting to fill the positions below: Job Title: Nutrition Officer Location: Mubi, Adamawa Start Date: ASAP Duration: 12 Month Scope of Work

  • The Nutrition Clinical Officer- is responsible for overseeing all Nutrition activities for IRC supported health facilities and catchment communities in program LGAs in Adamawa State.
  • Responsibilities will include day to day supports to Nutritional activities in the health facilities and their catchment communities, monitoring of activities, report making, coordination with other sectors and government authorities as well as close collaboration with the Nutrition unit at the state MOH & health facility staff and managers.
  • The Nutrition Officer will have no line management responsibilities and reports to the Nutrition Manager. The position is based in Mubi with regular field visit to program clinics.
Key Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with the other Nutrition program staff in Nigeria, oversee the implementation of Nutrition projects implemented by IRC Nigeria (Mubi).
  • In collaboration with the Nutrition manager and the Nutrition Coordinator, ensure that Nutrition programs utilize standardized protocols, policies and guidelines, as outlined by the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and WHO. Ensure that all Nutrition activities are consistent with established best practices.
  • Promote the quality of the IRC’s Nutrition programs by following the measures put in place in collaboration with other staff from other unit.
  • Ensure sound data collection and information management systems are in place for ongoing monitoring of Nutrition programme activities
  • Participate in the design of robust M&E plans and design/adapt Nutrition information systems including surveillance systems for the IRC health & nutrition programs in Nigeria
  • Contribute to the growth of the IRC nutrition programme in Nigeria through quality implementation of project activities, adequate monitoring and timely reporting as needed, working in conjunction with other colleagues in the IRC Nigeria program.
  • Conduct regular supportive supervision to all supported health facilities and catchment communities, provide mentoring and technical support and appropriate feedback as needed.
  • Work with the nutrition manager and Nutrition Coordinator to ensure appropriate use of programme resources
  • Organise planned trainings for Nutrition staff and ensure that MOH and WHO guidelines are used for all trainings which should be delivered in a quality manner.
  • Support the set up of use of FMOH clinical guidelines in all health facilities, providing mentoring as required to improve compliance.
  • Follow all IRC guidelines, programme and budget management tools
  • Ensure a good working relationship with all stakeholders involved in service provision to supported health facilities and catchment communities in Adamawa State.
  • Ensure the consistent use of the IRC grant management guidelines during programme implementation.
Requirements
  • Degree in Nutrition with vast experience in CMAM programming
  • At least 2 Years work experience in Nutrition programs both at clinical and community based programs and other primary Health care components is preferable
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding Nutrition Policy of Nigeria
  • Previous experience working in Northern Nigeria, willingness to work in Northern Nigeria
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience delivering Nutrition and related trainings to health staff using national or WHO guidelines
  • Experience in SQUEC and SMART Surveys and Rapid Assessments
  • NGO work experience is an advantage
  • Should be able to use Microsoft Office especially MS-Word, Excel,Powerpoint
  • Able to communicate in English language (written and spoken ); Knowledge of local languages is a plus
  • Additional qualities: ability to multitask, ability to handle pressure well, ability to improvise, be flexible , and adaptability to transitions.
Job Title: Nutrition Outreach Officer Location: Askira Uba, Borno Start Date: ASAP Duration: 12 Months Key Responsibilities
  • Implement Nutrition Outreach activity with the support of Nutrition Manager in developing the movement and work plans in the related project araes.
  • Assess the existing health outreach systems and actors and to build upon and further strengthen these existing systems with community outreach for CMAM
  • Identified and address the barriers to accessing CMAM-type services, and provide the preparations needed to effectively reach communities with severely malnourished children
  • Formation, training and supervising the community Volunteers on
  • Take lead in Community Assessment, Formulation of Community Outreach Strategy, Development of Messages and Materials and Community Mobilisation
  • mobilising community outreach with the goal of maximising CMAM services, minimising the number of defaulters, and ultimately reducing deaths due to severe acute malnutrition (SAM).
  • Work together with the local partner to ensure effective implementation of community
  • Provided tools and skills for CVs to plan standard CMAM community outreach activities and an ensure that they practice these skills in the field.
  • Together with the nutrition manager support in the development of an effective outreach strategy that will enhance effective and comprehensive service provision.
  • Capacity building and training of the local government and partner staff in all aspects of nutrition programming.
  • Ensure community assessment, community participation/ involvement, community screening for early case-finding and referral of children with severe acute malnutrition, home visits to follow up with problem cases, and health and nutrition education.
  • Support in carry out community sensitization and mobilization at the Health facility and community level.
  • Promotion of proper hygiene and sanitation at health facility and community level.
  • Ensure strong communication links with all other CMAM staff, providing advice and support to all other staff members on outreach issues as and when they arise.
  • Provide general support to outreach mobile clinic
  • Any other task assign by the supervisor to maintain quality program.
  • Generate weekly, monthly reports & maintain outreach activity database for submission.
Requirements
  • B.Sc/HND in Nutrition, Dietetics or social sciences
  • At least 2 Years work experience in Nutrition programs both at clinical and community based programs
  • At least one year working experience in CMAM outreach component program
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding Nutrition Policy of Nigeria with focusing on community outreach
  • Knowledge about the CVs role and responsibilities in both OTP and community
  • Previous experience working in Northern Nigeria, willingness to work in Maiduguri
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience in delivering and facilitating Nutrition related trainings to participants
  • NGO work experience is an advantage
  • Should be able to use Microsoft Office especially MS-Word, Excel,Powerpoint
  • Able to communicate in English language (written and spoken ); Knowledge of local languages is compulsory

Work Environment Program activities will be implemented in Askira Uba, Borno State. The postholder will be working and reporting to the Nutrition Manager in Mubi, Adamawa State. The security in Borno State and Adamawa state is relatively volatile.
Job Title: Senior Nutrition Officer Location: Adamawa Start Date: ASAP Duration: 12 Months Scope of Work
  • The Senior Nutrition Officer is the Sub-focal point for IRC's primary Nutrition care services in Mubi-Adamawa.
  • He/she reports to the Nutrition Manager and ensures full involvement for the implementation of a quality Nutrition program, in accordance with appropriate standards and as well provide support to the Nutrition manager in identify program gaps in Nutrition services with immediate solution for further necessary steps to address those gaps.
  • Assist in providing technical support in planning, implementing and monitoring of Nutrition interventions and as well support in system strengthening and promotion of childhood nutrition.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide full support to Nutrition Manager on Project Management cycle
  • Deputize for Nutrition Manager when the need arises
  • Over sees all field Nutrition team activities and report to manager
  • Take charges of some grants T2 lines and monitor their program spending to ensure appropriate compliance.
  • With the support of nutrition manager, directly supervised all program assistances with regard to their PP and PM Evaluations
  • Support the Nutrition team in preparation, selection and conducting training to HW, CHV, Government officials and members of MTMSG
  • Monitor weekly and monthly CMAM facility program report to ensure clients admission and discharge criteria are in accordance with the recommended anthropometric protocol and approved sphere standard provision respectively
  • With the support of the Nutrition Manager, conducted a support supervision to the CMAM project site for better programing and provision of on the job training to the program related staffs
  • Periodic check to OTP/SC program documents to ensure proper documentation on admitted SAM clients files and record
  • Support to ensure good coordination with the team and other IRC related program sector.
  • Follow Up on Tri-referral transfer channel (Community to clinic, OTP to SC and SC to OTP) to ensure all program patients has arrived to appropriate CMAM site
  • Monitor evolving needs of the target communities and adjust the programmatic priorities as necessary.
  • Conduct a periodic stock count at Both OTP/SC clinics and provide a timely site need forecast to ensure availability and to avoid stock out
  • Take lead in conducting Community sensitization, Outreach Mobile OTPs, cooking Demonstration and IYCF related activities.
Requirements
  • Health and Nutrition related professional ( HND, BSc ) with emphasis on Public Health Nutrition
  • Significant experience in nutrition in emergencies.
  • At least 2 years professional experience in nutrition (CMAM and IYCF) programming
  • Excellent management and supervision skills
  • Ability to write clear and concise program reports with meet required deadlines.
  • Able to work with little supervision while being a strong team player captain
  • Experience and ability to support team and build staff capacity.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to live and work under pressure in an unstable security environment.
  • Excellent computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Power-point, Outlook and the internet.
  • Fluency in speaking the local languages is necessary
