NLC Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Waba has called on the Nigerian government
to increase the minimum wage of workers from N18,000, saying
the old minimum wage was no longer realistic in the face of the
increasing exchange rate.
Speaking after a meeting with Senate President
Bukola Saraki, Comrade Waba said the NLC intends to submit a new minimum
wage demand to the National Assembly.
He added that as at the time when
the wages of workers was increased to N18,000, the exchange rate was
about N140 but with the new exchange rate, the value of the N18,000
minimum wage had decreased.
