We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Payroll Officer
Ref: IITA-HR-NRS2019-018
Location: Ibadan, Oyo
Recruitment Type: National (3-year renewable contract)
Job Description
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:
- Prepare, review and pay salaries of IITA NRS on monthly basis;
- Review local payroll reports and attend to enquiries if any from staff;
- Prepare and manage IITA Consultancy payrolls – Dollar and Naira;
- Prepare and manage teacher’s payroll on monthly basis;
- Process payroll reports into IITA accounting system;
- Reconcile various payroll groups with timely follow up on any variation;
- Manage staff vehicle maintenance allowance payment;
- Review and coordinate payment of IT students, NYSC allowance and casual labour wages;
- Review and coordinate payment of staff loan and staff final entitlements;
- Ensuring payroll related documents are kept and maintained;
- Coordinate filling of statutory tax returns to various tax authorities in Nigeria;
- Prepare and manage payment of students and visiting scientists’ stipends;
- Liaise with HR team on matters relating to staff remuneration records and resolve issues when and if they occur;
- Liaise with various tax authorities on tax matters;
- Uploading and posting of Journals and ADIS into Oracle System;
- Liaise regularly with MIS team in proffering solution to PAYPERS.
- Active participation in tax issues as it relates to NRS salaries;
- Coordinate subordinate activities; Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience
- B.Sc./HND in Accounting or related field from an accredited institution with ICAN PE II. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of six (6) years’ experience performing related roles in a large organization.
Competencies:
The ideal candidate must:
- Have a strong analytical mind.
- Have a good working knowledge of computer applications especially Oracle Application
- Have a pleasant personality, good team player, honest.
- Have good command of both written and oral English.

Job Title: Advance and Claims Officer

Duties
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:
- Reconciliation of on-campus imprest account and processing of expense claims for staff in headquarters and stations;
- Review queries from Budget Officers concerning wrong coding of expenses and responding/adjusting as appropriate;
- Prepare journals on ADI and reconciliation of Cash/Travel advance account for HQ and Stations;
- Follow-up on retirement of advances for HQ and stations;
- Creation of invoices for advances and supervise keying-in of expense claim;
- Supervise processing of chargeback and expense claims;
- Processing of travel and cash advances to all staff;
- Conduct period checks on cashier cash balances and cheques;
- Releasing of advances encumbrances;
- Identify and journalize exchange rate differences in advance accounts;
- Processing of non-advance related claims;
- Review and process training/workshop budget request;
- Attend to staff on matters on PA (Personal Account) deductions;
- Assist staff on per diem calculations and claims computations;
- Participate in per diem and other related policy review;
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Job Title: Associate Scientist, Agricultural Markets Economist

Job Description
- IITA seeks to recruit an Associate Scientist, Agricultural Markets Economist. The overall objective of the position is to lead strategic and applied research on market economics on IITA mandate crops and related activities.
- The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other social scientists and biophysical scientists as needed such as agronomists, crop breeders, soil scientists, and IPM scientists.
- He/she will be a member of the IITA Social Science and Agribusiness Core Competency. He/she will report to the Senior Agricultural Economist and to Director of Western Africa Hub.
Position Responsibilities
- Mentor and backstop graduate students involved in related research.
- Publish scientific outputs in peer reviewed IF journals and others (e.g. technical reports, IITA bulletins, or social media and books or book chapters).
- Contribute to resource mobilization through development of concept notes and proposals in collaboration with others.
- Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor.
- Conduct market economic studies of commodities along the value chain.
- Monitor economic changes in agriculture in relation to the markets and vice versa.
- Devise methods and procedures to conduct different types of markets surveys and value chain assessments.
- Create, as well as use, various econometric modeling techniques to develop forecasts.
- Apply models of economic behavior to agricultural markets changes and developments.
- Promote market development using experimental economic methods.
- Develop business plans for project and activities in commodity value chains.
- Establish and foster relationships and linkages with partners in national agricultural research and extension systems, the private sector and Advanced Research Institutes.
- Provide technical backstopping and assistance in building capacity of national programs in research on market economics.
Educational Qualifications
- The candidate should possess a PhD in Agricultural Economics, Applied Economics or other relevant fields from a highly recognized university.
- He/she will demonstrate experience of at least three years in markets economic studies relating to agricultural issues, preferably in Africa.
Core Competencies:
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a cross-cultural environment.
- Excellent leadership, mentoring, management, interpersonal and team building skills.
- Fluency in oral and written English. Working knowledge of French is an advantage.
- Knowledge of sub-Saharan Africa is an added advantage.
- Good knowledge of market studies.
- Competence in the development of socio-economic and/or market surveys.
- Ability to perform thoughtful critical analysis on market economics related data.
- Conversant with tools and approaches applied in market studies.
- Knowledge and experience with economic evaluation of agricultural technologies.
- Familiarity with statistical software used in market studies.
- Track record of peer-reviewed publications in market related journals.
- Experience with resource mobilization.
