The Georgetown Global Health Nigeria (GGHN) is the operational arm and an affiliate of Georgetown University Centre for Global Health Practice and Impact (CGHPI) in Nigeria. GGHN is a Non–profit, Non-Governmental Organization in Nigeria that promotes best practices in health care delivery and research using local and internationally adapted models to strengthen health systems.

Job Title: Grant Assistant

Location: Kano
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Overview

  • The grants assistant will work with the grants manager in his/her duties. The grants assistant supports in the preparation and management of the the contract process between the organization and sub-recipients/contractors.
  • S/He provides support in the interpretation of all contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with USAID policies and within legal and statutory requirements.
  • S/He supports in the preparation of monthly summary reports of revenue and expenditure on all grants and contracts. S/He does other tasks as requested by the supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the manager in coordinating, and monitoring the implementation of donor-funded projects and programs
  • Managing donor grants transactions effectively and efficiently and ensuring quality reporting
  • Supports in establishing a grants tracking mechanism to effectively follow up grant activities and determine progress for decision making where further action is needed.
  • Supports timely preparation of all grants system and corresponding obligation modifications
  • Supports in ensuring that grants are implemented in compliance with GGHN guidelines and relevant donor regulations.
  • Maintain and update grants, contracts and obligation modification files.
  • Document and share key grant management issues and observations with the grants manager.
  • Ensure all Funding Agreement Document (FADs) files are updated regularly by partner.
  • Supports the manager in proposal development process by working with program staff, writing budget narratives, editing proposals, and ensuring proper proposal and grant management procedures are followed.
  • Supports the manager in ensuring that technical reports to donors from partners are submitted on time, collated and that such reports are coherent and accurate (quarterly, interim, or final reports).
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications
Essential:

  • A Degree in Development Studies, Business Studies, or Social Science (Master's Degree or equivalent in International Affairs, Development, or related subject will be an added advantage).
  • At least two years of experience working in project and/or grants management and proposal/business development/design, USAID funded project preferably.
  • Experience in developing and interpreting donor budgets.
  • Good communicator with strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, cultural, and diplomatic skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities, and meet demanding deadlines.
  • Knowledge of development issues, trends, challenges, opportunities, and implications to the community.
  • Proven ability to support the processes for the development and writing of grant proposals and concepts and track record in winning proposals.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Desirable:

  • Appreciable skills in developing, and writing grant proposals
  • Strong thinking and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High proficiency in MS Office tools (with excellent Microsoft Excel skills).
  • Good research, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective working with and through partners
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
