Job Title: Project Manager (EU - ECOWAS Scholarship Programme)

Role Purpose

  • To work with the Programme Manager EU - ECOWAS Scholarship Programme, other members of the project delivery team to ensure successful programme delivery in host location.
  • To support the Programme Manager with the coordination and delivery of the key elements and activities of the EU - ECOWAS Scholarship Programme across all the countries where the scholarship is based.
  • Responsibilities will also include providing support to the Programme Manager on the recruitment, selection, placement and management of candidates on EU- ECOWAS Scholarships programme.

Main Accountabilities
Project Management:

  • To manage all activity related to the EU ECOWAS Scholarship Programme in line with agreed timelines, costs, targets and established performance indicators as stated in the programme description of action (DOA) and contract.
  • To manage the programme events’ financial elements in accordance with agreed project financial plans and corporate standards
  • To manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders related to projects including but not limited to project delivery partners, contractors, and suppliers.

Marketing and Communications Services:

  • Support with the development and deployment of the agreed communication strategy and plan for the programme in line with communications and visibility plan as outlined in the EU ECOWAS Scholarship Programme contract.
  • As part of Country Client Relationship Management framework and country stakeholder management processes, maintain and update contacts for the CRM, recording contacts/ leads and outcomes of meetings, ensuring follow up action is carried out in a timely and efficient manner.

Scholarship Administration:

  • To manage all activity related to the EU ECOWAS Scholarship Programme in line with agreed timelines, costs, targets, and established performance indicators as stated in the programme description of action (DOA) and contract.
  • To work with the Finance Manager to manage the programme events’ financial elements in accordance with agreed project financial plans and corporate standards.
  • To work with both internal and external stakeholders related to projects including but not limited to the scholarship beneficiaries, suppliers and supporting teams across British Council offices in West Africa and UK.

Financial management:

  • Support programme manager in ensuring effective management of programme budget. This will include providing data and information to support internal monthly reporting on budget performance, cash flow, forecasting and planning exercises in line with British Council corporate procedures. Managing programme finances ensuring that all income and expenditure targets are monitored and met.
  • Ensure all programme related procurement is delivered in line with compliance and procurement standards and processes as outlined in the EU – ECOWAS Scholarships programme contract, and all programme related procurement documentation are appropriately retained and filed for programme audit and donor spot check processes.

Internal communications:

  • Work with the British Council cluster and regional Marketing and Communications team to manage project communications for internal and external stakeholders.

Role Specific Knowledge and Experience
Essential requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years programme management and delivery experience, at least one of which should be related to Higher Education programming
  • Demonstrated experience managing relationships with external clients, partners, and stakeholders
  • Proficiency in using financial management software SAP
  • Experience organising and managing events.

Desirable:

  • Experience working on a scholarship programme in West Africa.

Language requirements: 

  • Strong written and oral English communication skills.
  • The Role holder must have existing rights to live and work in the country the role is based.
