Site Environment Officer at WTS Energy

Job Title: Site Environment Officer

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Job Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • Ensure that construction environmental-related requirements and specifications are adhered to during the construction phase of the Project.
  • Implement the company’s environmental-related activities and act as a focal point for coordination of site environmental activities during the entire project.

Main Responsibilities

  • Monitoring contractor’s environmental-related activities during Project construction.
  • Ensuring that full environmental protection is observed by the Contractor.
  • Ensuring that environmental commitments are respected by the Contractor and subsequently other subcontractors.
  • Ensure environmental-related documents for construction such as Construction Environmental Management
  • Ensure that the Contractor’s construction equipment meets environmental standards, that the spill response program is enforced, and that the emission control plan is applied.
  • Follow up and monitor defined parameters for the implementation of Project biodiversity.
  • Ensure full implementation of CFR objectives.
  • Collect and report environmental data and statistics.
  • Issue weekly and monthly environmental activity reports.
  • Provide support concerning environmental issues to the project team.
  • Plan, Waste Management Plan, Waste Management Procedure, etc. are implemented on-site by approved procedures and statutory regulations (EIA)
  • Issue site periodic inspection and audit plans and ensure compliance.
  • Support and follow up with the EIA IMM
  • Participate and contribute, where necessary, to site environmental reviews and meetings.
  • Monitor close-out of all environmental-related actions from various environmental reviews and reports from the site.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree at minimum; Environmental; Geological, Chemical or Biological Sciences; Occupational Health
  • Knowledge and understanding of local and international environmental regulations and standards.
  • Experience in working under ISO 14000 standards.
  • Strong reporting and organizational skills.
  • Good written skills and ability to communicate efficiently.
  • Autonomous, self-motivating but active team player.
  • A Master’s degree in environmental-related study will be an advantage.
  • Professional experience (number of years): 8 – 10 | Years on Onshore construction projects: minimum 5
  • Previous experience and exposure to environmental work, and local knowledge of working with contractors.
  • Hands-on PC programs (Word/ Excel etc.).
