EA has launched AREWA24, a satellite TV project which can be viewed on NILESAT 102, frequency 12226 focused on Hausa speakers in northern Nigeria and seeks the following personnel to help manage the growth of AREWA24 and its Nigeria programs.

Job Title: Communications Manager


Location: Northern Nigeria
Travel Requirements: Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, and field-based activities in Northern Nigeria

Job Description

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and oversee the execution of national communications and marketing strategies that leverage AREWA24’s unique strengths.
  • Develop media messages and images to encourage viewership and garner support for the channel’s growth and development.
  • Promote, through press articles, advertising and branding, the work and name of AREWA24 and its original and premier TV programming
  • Build and maintain contacts with the press and other national media (including television and radio) and serve as spokesperson
  • Design and execute online and print marketing campaigns, using viral marketing techniques and social media to raise awareness and attract supporters.
  • Develop advertising and other programs to educate and engage youth audiences and to encourage their long-term commitment and engagement with AREWA24.
  • Demonstrate high energy and strong leadership skills, internally and externally, serving as an effective representative of AREWA24.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Advanced degree in marketing, communications, or mass communications
Work Experiences:
  • More than 7 years high-level experience in communications and/or marketing.
  • Demonstrated success directing a communications and marketing campaigns, including developing a strategic vision.
  • Experience in coordinating with media outlets and developing targeted marketing and promotional materials
  • Able to work under extreme pressure and deadlines
Language Skills:
  • Superior oral and written communications skills in both Hausa and English.
Job Title: Deputy Director, Nigeria TV Project, Equal Access Nigeria

Responsibilities:

Job Summary

The Deputy Director General will be responsible for supporting the Director General to oversee and manage television production, company and community outreach and the development of select partnerships for EA-Nigeria and the AREWA24 channel. S/he will ensure that AREWA24 is delivering quality content to audiences across Northern Nigeria and the Hausa-speaking sub-region. S/he will liaise with potential business partners and sponsors to drive EA’s commercialization strategy for AREWA24.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Help develop and implement a strategy for research and analysis related to the AREWA24 channel and its target audiences; advise the DG about program slots targeting the desired audience, as well as audience reactions to the broadcast programs.
  • Work with the DG and Head of Production to ensure that all production deliverables are submitted on-time in a suitable format and in-line with EA’s strict quality standards.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff to build their capacity in producing, editing, and finalizing high-quality television content.
  • Analyze the commercial market in Nigeria and work with the DG and AREWA24 President to adapt the channel’s commercialization strategy.
  • Work with the AREWA24 President to identify, develop and manage new commission-based revenue streams from corporate sponsorships, advertising, and other relevant models to ensure AREWA24’s commercial sustainability.
  • Explore the feasibility of innovative revenue-generation ideas, such as product placement, sponsorship, merchandising under AREWA24 license and advertiser-funded programming.
  • Liaise with the Nigerian public authorities about possible sources of income relating to the broadcasting of public service announcements or related to other relevant approaches.
  • Work to engage with bi- and multi-lateral donors (UN, USG, and others) and like-minded corporations to develop programming for the channel.
  • Explore the feasibility of developing potential equity partnerships with like-minded corporations and entities to further the channel’s growth and sustainability
  • Represent EAN and AREWA24 in the DG’s absence.
Qualifications:
Education:

  • Advanced degree in mass communication, media production, and/or business/marketing
Work Experience:
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in TV production and broadcast/cable; at least 6 years in a supervisory role
  • A thorough knowledge of production processes, TV business models (cable/satellite TV a plus), audience research, and other areas vital to the commercial success of any TV channel
  • Experience in coordinating with external suppliers, producers, sponsors, and advertising sales houses
  • Able to work under extreme pressure and deadlines
Language and Computer Skills:
  • Excellent spoken and written English, knowledge of Hausa a plus
  • Computer skills: Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools, and experience with other editing software packages; MS Word and Excel
Travel:
  • Able to undertake travel to the project locations as required
Job Title: Survey Enumerators/Researchers (Local Consultants)

Locations:
Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa

Qualifications
Interested candidates should have the following experience and educational background:
  • Master's degree in communications or statistics or bachelor's degree with specific coursework or training in survey design and administration.
  • At least 4 years experience administering surveys and interviewing respondents. Experience with radio, TV, and other media surveys a plus.
  • Fluency in Hausa and English
  • Experience working in Northern Nigeria, particularly the four states in this study.
  • Strong work ethic and flexibility to undertake the survey across several locations in the above zones.
Job Title: Producer/Director - Audio Dub Studio (Local Hire)

Location:
Kano, Nigeria
Reports to: Studio Manager

Essential Job Functions
  • Producer/Director audio dubbing unit is expected to assemble, operate and maintain the scripts and workflow of the production, also to give direction to voice artist in the audio booth as well as to supervises the laying of the sound.
  • He or she should be conversant with equipment used to record, amplify, enhance, mix, edit or reproduce sound. Sound man will identify talents to be use for recording.
Specific Duties include:
Production Activities:
  • Consulting with head of international programs to determine the sound requirements and characters to be use;
    Selecting artist, allocating roles, adjusting and operating the equipment used for recording; and scripts.
    Applying technical knowledge of visualisation to sound recording to achieve the determined artistic objectives;
    Monitoring the process of audio/sound recording as well as give directives;
    Anticipating and correcting any problems.
Post-production Activities:
  • Integrating (synchronisation) of pre-recorded audio (dialogue, sound effects and music) with visual content;
  • Re-recording and synchronising audio (post-synching);
  • Mixing and balancing speech, effects and music;
  • Creating and altering sound effects for use in films, television, etc.
Successful candidate will be required to work alone as a sound operator or could be part of a sound team.

Essential Job Functions
  • Soundman is expected to assemble, operate and maintain the technical equipment used to record, amplify, enhance, mix or reproduce sound on location or within Studio settings.
  • Sound man will identify the sound requirements for a given task or situation and perform the appropriate actions to produce this sound. Specific duties include;
Production Activities:
  • Consulting with producers/Directors  and performers to determine the sound requirements;
  • Selecting, positioning, adjusting and operating the equipment used for amplification and recording;
  • Applying technical knowledge of sound recording equipment to achieve the determined artistic objectives;
  • Monitoring audio signals to detect sound-quality deviations or malfunctions;

Job Title: Call for Survey Firms (Local firms)

Locations:
Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa

Requirements
The following are key requirements of this scope of work:
  • Organizational experience conducting similar media surveys.
  • Fluency in Hausa for all proposed enumerators
  • Significant experience with data analysis tools, including SPSS and/or STATA.
  • Specific knowledge of northern Nigeria, particularly the four states in question.
Other criteria to be met:
  • Organizational description and statement of capacity, including experience undertaking similar studies.
  • CVs of the team leader and at least three other enumerators. Each proposed enumerator should possess a combination of academic coursework and practical experience with survey design and administration.
  • A proposal (including budget and methodology) to administer 1000, 45-minute surveys across four states in Northern Nigeria, to include data collection (day rates, travel, etc.) and analysis.
Job Title: TV Production Editor (Local Hire)

Location:
Kano, Nigeria
Reports to: Head of Production

Essential Job Functions
  • Editor is responsible for assembling recorded raw material into a finished product suitable for broadcasting.
  • The material will consist of camera footage, dialogue, sound effects, graphics and special effects.
  • This is a key role in the post-production process and the editor's skill can determine the quality and delivery of the final product.
  • The editor will be part of a team and will usually work closely with the director to achieve the desired end result.
  • The editor is expected to demonstrate creative freedom in performing work using digital technology; he/she should also be able to use computer software to perform high-quality digitization of sound and pictures.
Specific Duties include:
  • Receiving a brief, and an outline of footage and/or a shot list, script, or screenplay;
  • Assembling all raw footage, with camera shots either recorded or transferred in storage device in preparation for inputting into the computer;
  • Digitally put together the sequence of film and deciding what is usable;
  • Reordering and tweaking the content to ensure the logical sequencing and smooth running of the film/video.
  • Consulting with the director and producer throughout the post-production process;
  • Familiarising with the style of specific directors;
  • Selecting the most effective shot of a scene in terms of drama, story relevance or continuity.
  • Any other duty as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements

  • Education (OND, HND, B.Sc., recognised technical certifications) in Media and Communication or related field.
  • Essential knowledge of FCPX (Final cut pro X).

Job Title: TV Producer (Local Hire)

Location:
Kano, Nigeria
Reports to: Executive Producer

Essential Job Functions
  • The producer is engaged to work on various TV/film productions such as general programmes, breakfast shows, youth programmes, drama being produced by the Hausa TV project in Kano.
Duties:
Duties will include but not limited to:
  • To work with Executive Producer and DG to develop house directing style for productions.
  • To work with Executive Producer to cast series
  • To be responsible for all aspects of producing and directing from pre-production, directing cast and crew on set to overseeing post production.
  • Managing cast and logistics of production.
  • Be responsible for delivering production within budget and allocated resources.
  • To be responsible for the overall technical quality of the programming produced ensuring that all production is up to acceptable broadcast standard.
Other Duties:
  • Participation in weekly production meetings to review episodes delivered and provide input into the planning of future episodes
  • Providing feedback to writers and making suggestions to plot development, dialogue and characters
  • Directing and producing Individual Production Content.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Education (OND, HND, B.Sc. recognised technical certifications,) in Media and Communication or related field
  • At least 2 years' experience in structured media organisation
  • Excellent oral and written Hausa and English skills
  • Experience within producing Production.
