United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Nigeria is supporting the Government of Nigeria to strengthen prevention of and response all forms of violence against children.
In particular, assistance will be provided to strengthen the child protection system, including through modelling the system in four States, in order to demonstrate the impact of a well-functioning child protection system, to develop a common model for operationalizing the Child Rights Act at State level and to develop standardized tools, including regulations, working protocols and training manuals to govern the system.

Job Title: Consultant - Against Children Launch

Type of Agreement: Special Service Agreement (SSA) for 4 months

Purpose of the Consultancy

The Consultant, with guidance from the Child Protection Specialist, Communication for Development Specialist and the Media/ External Communication Officer, will ensure the successful launch of the campaign to end violence against children and priority actions in Lagos State, as well as successful events leading up to and following.

Major Tasks to be accomplished:

  • Successful launch of end violence against children campaign in Lagos State
  • Successful visit of the Special Representative on Violence Against Children to Lagos State to advocate for an end to violence
  • Workshop of National and State religious leaders with the Special Representative on Violence Against Children
Minimum Qualifications
  • First degree
  • Two years experience of organizing events
  • Excellent and demonstrable organizational skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Computer skills, including various office applications and internet navigation skills
  • Fluency in English language
  • Demonstrable experience in supporting government, NGOs or development partners or private sector organisations in organizing launch events/campaign events
  • Knowledge of issues related to violence against children and child protection would be an asset



Job Title: Violence Against Children Communications Consultant

Vacancy Number: VN-NGR-71-2015
Location: Lagos
Level: NOC
Type of Agreement: Special Service Agreement (SSA) for 4 months

Purpose of the Consultancy

  • The Consultant will support the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to secure maximum coverage of the launch of the Priority Action to End VAC and maximum distribution of key messages on VAC.
  • Specifically the consultant will ensure the development and implementation of a strategy for social media campaign utilizing various platforms (twitter, whatsap, U report, facebook, web pages, blogs) to create mass public awareness in Lagos and a platform for change, manage and provide regular and engaging content for the VAC twitter, facebook and website, engage with print and online media to ensure maximum attendance at and coverage of the launch event and issues on VAC, engage with social media, including bloggers, to ensure mass dissemination of key messages on VAC, and identify avenues for the dissemination of key messages and IEC materials on VAC.
  • The consultant will also develop and implement a strategy for engagement with the private sector to obtain buy in from key organization to end VAC.
Major Tasks to be accomplished:
  • Key messages for the Lagos campaign developed and disseminated
  • Revitalised, populated and updated Facebook page with significant increase in members, likes and shares
  • Daily twitter updates, with a significant increase in followers and retweets
  • Private sector organisations publically support the Lagos end VAC campaign
  • An interactive, easy to use website on End Violence against Children in place and maintained
  • Mass media coverage (both traditional, online and social media and national and international), including on TV and radio talk shows and news programmes, achieved before, during and after the Lagos Priority Responses launch
Minimum Qualifications
  • Advanced University degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or related social/behavioural sciences. A first degree holder with relevant combination of professional training, certification and experience may apply.
  • Knowledge of current social media trends and how to utilize platforms for advocacy, visibility, communication research, planning, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible work experience in journalism, communications, media, public relations or international relations
  • Highly developed communication skills, including abilityto draft I edit texts, articulate ideas in a clear and concise style to a variety of audiences.
  • Innovative and creative thinker, able to package concepts on VAC for different audiences
  • Ability to identify strategic issues, opportunities and risks, and communicate broad and compelling organizational direction
  • Computer skills, including various office applications, website maintenance and internet navigation skills (intermediate to advanced MS Office Skills)
  • Fluency in English language
  • Knowledge of issues related to violence against children and child protection would be an asset
