Job Title: Legal Counsel Location: Nigeria Responsibility
  • Identify and analyse the company’s exposure to legal, regulatory and reputational risks, be accountable of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution, act as primary contact with external solicitors / lawyers to take legal advice on areas relevant to the company from appropriate legal contacts in the Nigeria jurisdictions;
  • Draft, Review of, negotiation and provision of advice on, all contracts relevant to the company including, but not limited to, property leases, supplier contracts, banking agreements and other commercial contracts, as appropriate;
  • Write and edit reports, opinions, correspondence, articles, and other documents;
  • In collaboration with the Legal Manager for Law, lead and contribute to the development of international standard-setting and model laws for the defence and promotion of rights in above mentioned fields; develop and implement strategies for the promotion and implementation of such standards and laws;
  • Ensure consistent application of law-related policy across the organization, including by contributing to quality control functions;
  • Develop for approval legal policy, particularly in emerging or complex areas of the above;
  • Be responsible for the provision of high level legal and related policy advice and analysis in fields of expertise;
  • Identify and monitor emerging legal developments and key concerns relating to fields of Company Operation, Foreign Exchange Finance, ICT, TMT, NCC, Licensing Issues, Labor Issues and Intellectual Properties;
  • Conduct and oversee significant research into legal issues in fields of Company Operation, Foreign Exchange Finance, ICT, TMT, NCC, Licensing Issues, Labor Issues and Intellectual Properties;
  • Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Legal Manager.
Profession Requirements
  • Qualified lawyer with a strong academic background, more than three years in-house experience, at least five years experience and recognised international expertise in a law firm in legal issues directly related to Company Operation, Foreign Exchange Finance, ICT, TMT, NCC, Licensing Issues, Labor Issues and Intellectual Properties or other relevant PQE experience;
  • Self-starter and with ability to work collaboratively with other staff in legal and other departments;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Experience in, and ability to bridge, strategy and operations;
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively;
  • Commitment to work within our philosophy and objectives;
  • Willingness to work outside normal working hours including weekends and evenings if essential or emergency.
  • Have excellent technical legal knowledge and skills, with a track record of preparing high quality, influential legal and policy advice for all or any of the above areas;
  • Excellent written communication skills, excellent written and spoken English is essential;
