Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. International Medical Corps has been operating in Nigeria since November 2013. It currently has its country office in Abuja and field offices in Kano, Sokoto, Damboa,Dikwa and Maiduguri where it is implementing emergency Water, Sanitation, Hygiene (WASH) and Protection programs, and also building capacity of local health systems and structures, ensuring the provision of quality, accessible Nutrition and Health Care. We are recruiting to fill the vacant position below:   Job Title: Nutrition Officer Location: Maiduguri, Borno Slot: 2 Job Summary

• The primary functions of the Nutrition officer is to provide leadership and overall day to day management of all Nutrition Food Security programming at duty designation and state, participate in defining intervention priorities, develop necessary contacts and relationships with government, non-government, donors and UN agencies at the field level;
• Contribute to the development of strategies and manage existing programs and resources, and provide day to day supervision, management and coaching to a wide team of Nutrition Food Security in the operation areas.
• Ensure that International Medical Corps program is delivering the highest level of quality of nutrition services in line to national and international guideline.

• Effective implementation of IMC’s Emergency Nutrition Projects within the frame work of pertinent national policy, strategy and guidelines
• Ensure observance & respect the dignity of beneficiaries, careers and members of the community at all times
• Participate in any nutrition sector-specific assessments and make technical recommendations for appropriate activities, both for initial disaster response phase and for longer-term disaster risk reduction and transition phase.
• Determine the cause of the malnutrition in the emergency response and formulate appropriate responses that will address the cause.
• Ensure that emergency nutrition and related projects are technically sound, environmentally friendly, socially and cultural acceptable
• Actively represent International Medical Corps in nutrition sector discussions and activities, serve as an International Medical Corps nutrition sector resource person, and display technical and organizational leadership in sectoral activity commensurate with the role as a primary resource person for nutrition on the International Medical Corps in your working areas.
• Manage International Medical Corps’s nutrition response and recovery activities across a wide range of actors within International Medical Corps, donors, host governments, UN and NGO partners to ensure consistency of programming.
• Assess the immediate lifesaving nutrition interventions needed (such as CMAM) in addition to the prevention activities (ENA, IFE, etc) that need to be implemented at the same time.
• Provide direct hands-on technical support to Nutrition Staffs and IMC partners to effectively and innovatively manage emergency nutrition projects with focus on key technical areas
• Strong negotiation skill with the partners, host community, government officials.
• Actively participate and represent IMC in State and LGA nutrition CMAM Cluster meetings.
• Assist in development of, or provide technical review for, emergency response proposals to be submitted by International Medical Corps to ensure that proposed activities and programs align with best practice in the nutrition sector. As appropriate, suggest new developments in the nutrition sector to International Medical Corps programming.
• Be fully aware of national policies, strategies and other initiatives and developments by government and other stakeholders in the area of nutrition. Regularly assess the implications for IMC’s programme and priorities of any changes in the operating environment in this sector and report on these to the emergency program Coordinator and Nutrition Coordinator as required.
• Actively participate in surveys done at the Community level (KAP, SMART, Causal Analysis, Barriers, Coverage)
• Ensure development of core skills and competencies in Nutrition and Food Security among IMC staff in the project offices
• Provide technical support and training where required to all team members and partners
• Build the capacity of Technical, Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) and committees to deliver quality service and undertake participatory monitoring of the implementation of the project works and record lessons and reports.
• Prepare quarterly and annual reports to donors, line departments and sectors
• Strengthen partnerships, institutional linkages and working relationships

• Bachelor Degree, PGD or Masters’ in Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition or equivalent
• Minimum 5 years work experience for Bachelor and 2 years for masters level in nutrition work and implementation of nutrition intervention programmes, including community mobilization, monitoring and evaluation aspects.
• Significant experience on community management of acute malnutrition and Infant Feeding in Emergency in host communities/ IDP camp setting
• Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach local staff and community workers.
• Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathize with children and their care takers
• Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions
• Ability to deal with relations with local authorities as a Nutrition representative of IMC in the working areas
• Ability to integrate into the local environment including awareness of political, religious and economic aspects of the community
• Understanding of nutritional surveillance and information systems
• Proven ability and experience in planning and conducting formal training session on nutrition including CMAM and IYCF
• Excellent inter and intra personal skills to ensure consistent positive relations with key stakeholders
• Strong report writing and computer skills
• Fluent in written and spoken English and Hausa
• Commitment to and understanding of IMC’s aims, values and principles.

• The successful candidate will be in charge of data entry in the implementation of Nutrition/Food Assistance Project.
• The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a database of the beneficiaries, distributions and prepare monthly reports.
• Under the supervision and guidance of the Nutrition Coordinator, s/he will be expected to ensure that high quality data is maintained and communicated to the relevant stakeholders.
• Furthermore, s/he will be expected to demonstrate strong numerical, analytical and statistical competencies.

• Make sure that accurate data are entered into the database
• Create a database of all registered beneficiaries and update database on a regular basis;
• Compile and Analyze Data from Mass Screening
• Respond to requests for information and access relevant files
• Review data for deficiencies; resolving discrepancies by using standard procedures or returning incomplete documents to the team leader for resolution.
• Create a database for nutrition supplies.
• Transcribe information into required electronic format
• Perform any other tasks as may be assigned

• Minimum of Higher National Diploma in Statistics, Economics, Business Management or other related disciplines and at least two (2) years of professional experience in Food Security interventions. Experience in north east Nigeria is an added advantage.
• Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse
• Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.
• Compliance & Ethics: Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. • International Medical Corps (IMC), in collaboration with the Harvard School of Public Health (USA) and Epicentre (France), will be supporting a research study, “Reducing the frequency of follow up and task sharing in the treatment of uncomplicated severe acute malnutrition.”
• IMC seeks to recruit Nurses to implement study activities at selected health centers.
• Nurses will be responsible for the implementation of all study procedures at the study site and coordination with partner staff (IMC and SMoH) to ensure proper application of the study protocol and national CMAM guidelines.
• The aim of the research study is to test a new model of care, using a monthly schedule of follow-up with caregiver support for at-home surveillance in the treatment of uncomplicated severe acute malnutrition (SAM).
• The research study will be conducted in Sokoto state (Wamako and Binji LGAs) beginning in June 2017.
• This is position will be based at a single outpatient therapeutic program (OTP) site or stabilization center (SC) but can include travel to community locations as needed.

• Plan and organize study activities at designated site on a daily and weekly basis, in liaison with SMoH, LGA authorities and health facility staff and IMC nutrition supervisor, including but not limited to:
  • Evaluate study eligibility among children admitted to OTP by program staff
  • Take informed consent and enroll eligible children with consent
  • Deliver educational sessions for caregiver home surveillance (5 sites with monthly follow-up only)
  • Assure adherence to correct schedule of outpatient follow-up (e.g. monthly vs. weekly) as per site assignment
  • Support IMC nurse supervisor, care group promoters and community volunteers to ensure appropriate home follow-up of children based on the study protocol
• Work closely with program health facility staff and IMC nutrition officer to ensure correct implementation of study procedures and national CMAM protocol, including program staff implementation of anamnesis, physical examination, verification of vaccination status, admission/discharge criteria, educational counselling on OTP key messages and IYCF and hygiene to caretakers, and clinical management/transfer to SC
• Monitor and assure adequate study-related equipment and stocks at sites
• Complete and validate study questionnaires on a daily basis to ensure data collected is complete, consistent and accurate
• Organize and securely maintain all individual records on site until child discharge
• Prepare and record individual records to be transferred for data entry at discharge
• Maintain close communication with Field Investigator, study nurse supervisor and IMC staff to track study progress, monitor logistical needs/study supplies at site, and anticipate challenges
• Prepare site reports on a weekly basis with complete, consistent and accurate information
• Ensure respect for the dignity of CMAM beneficiaries, study participants and program staff
• Backstop nurse supervisor or other nurses when necessary
• Other duties as assigned

• Registered Nurse with a Certificate in Nursing from a recognized Nurse training institute ,food science or any other related Natural Sciences and over two (2) years’ experience in CMAM programs.
• Fluent in written and spoken English and Hausa is a MUST
• Valid and current practicing license
• Commitment to and understanding of IMC’s aims, values and principles

• Ability to respect confidentiality of data collected and dignity of participants and beneficiaries is essential
• Extremely flexible, motivated and have the ability to cope with stressful situations
