Premiere Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious international aid organization. Our teams are committed to supporting civilians’ victims of marginalization and exclusion, or hit by natural disasters, wars and economic collapses, by answering their fundamental needs. Our aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people in order to help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency. PUI is implementing humanitarian activities in Nigeria since April 2016, supporting population with food security, nutrition and health project in Maiduguri and Borno State. PUI is now looking for its Health team in Monguno. We are recruiting to fill the position below:     Job Title: Midwife, PHC Location: Monguno, Borno State Slot: 8 Openings General Objective

  • Under the direct supervision of the SRH supervisor, the Midwife provides MNCH/ SRH care services, including ANC, PNC, Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care, family planning, etc.
  • S/he follows PUI obstetrical and Sexual Reproductive Health protocols and universal standards to ensure quality and continuity of care.
Responsabilities and Tasks Consultation:
  • Welcome patients to the MNHC/ SRH services in the PHC.
  • Establish personal rapport with potential and actual patients and their relatives.
  • Provide Antenatal and Postnatal care services.
  • Provide Basic Obstetrical and Neonatal care, including assistance to urgent normal deliveries, manage obstetric emergencies.
  • Ensure mothers receive the documents required (birth certificate, vaccination card…).
  • Provide Family planning counseling as a routine and on request (where possible to the couple) and provide contraceptives according to the need.
  • Treat sick Pregnant and Lactating Women for illnesses selected by PUI, and for which a protocol is provided and adhere to therapeutic standards.
  • Manage sexual transmitted infections according to PUI protocols.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
Assessment:
  • Assess urgency and make sure urgent cases are seen first
  • Evaluate the pregnant women for high risks pregnancy and ensure a timely referral to secondary health services.
  • Identify cases needing referral and refer them in time, assessment and follow-up of new borne.
  • Identify Sexually Gender Based Violence victims and collaborate with the medical team for treatment.
Health Education:
  • Provide individual and group health education to patients concerning safe motherhood, care of the new born, IYCF (Infant and Young child feeding), Family Planning and general Sexual Health.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with Universal standards, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Adhere to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
Reporting:
  • Document collected information on health cards and other records.
  • Support in various data collection.
  • Ensure coordination and continuity of care through verbal and written reports and coordination with SRH supervisor and other PHC staff.
  • Ensure operation of equipment, and report to SRH supervisor in case of damage or not functioning.
  • Participate actively in meetings and trainings when required.
  • Perform other relevant duties as requested by supervisors

  • Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Nutrition Project Manager, the Nutrition Supervisor oversees all activities at the CMAM sites: screening, health education, treatment of and follow up of children with malnutrition and record keeping
Responsibilities and Tasks Activities Implementation:
  • Overall lead in the CMAM treatment points.
  • In liaison with medical staff refer for medication or dispense routine medication as per Nigerian protocol.
  • Supevise malnutrition screening, admission and recording of beneficiary information.
  • In liaison with Deputy Nutrition Project Manager, develop lists for home visits and defaulter tracing and share with Nutrition Supervisors for follow-up by Community Nutrition Mobilisers (CNM).

  • Organise and supervise the day-to-day schedule of the team to guarantee the smooth running of the project and participate to the weekly tasks including drafting of the field work plans
  • Make sure every members of the team clearly understand his/her task and has the necessary material to correctly fulfil his/her objectives
  • Ensure the work schedules are respected in the field
  • Organise regular meeting with his/her team (briefing and debriefing) and ensure they have the necessary support they need

  • Under the direct supervision of the Logistics Officer and the overall supervision of the Field Coordinator, the Cook is responsible for preparing meals on request for PUI expatriate staff, in accordance with the rules of hygiene. He/she is also responsible for requesting the food and equipment necessary for this work, and the maintenance of his/her workspace.

  • Wash plates, dishes, cutlery
  • Keep the kitchen, cooking utensils and refrigerator clean. Disinfect the refrigerator regularly.

Priorities of the Department:
  • Ensure the quality of care provided to patients in PUI health facility
  • Scale up on the primary health care facility plan should be developed according to the time frame
  • Assessment on beneficiaries at risk and diagnosed individuals with communicable and non-communicable diseases, other diseases of public health relevant and treat him.
  • Build the capacity of the community health workers, nurses, nurse assistants, midwives, registrar on thematic related to health
  • Provide frequent feedback on health - illness patterns observed in the facility that require further assessment
  • Report to line manager periodically regarding context changes that affect the modality of intervention
Mandatory Requirements/Qualifications
  • Education degree: Recognized Nurse Degree (at least certificate level) with national legislation
  • Work experience: 4-5 years of experience in Nursing, staff supervision and experience with NGO’s.

  • Under the direct supervision of the Nutrition supervisor, the Nutrition Officer will help organize and undertake Nutrition Education/Sensitization and Community screening activities at community level.
  • The Nutrition Officer will be responsible to ensure that educational messages are delivered to beneficiaries as per set targets and with the upmost quality regarding accuracy, efficiency and culturally sensitivity to optimize the adoption of healthier behavior among mothers of children under 5.
Responsabilities and Tasks Implementation and Monitoring of the Activities:
  • S/he will Participate in the identification of eligible project beneficiaries and Community Focal persons.
  • S/he will participate in organising Project beneficiaries and Volunteers into groups and other Fora for dissemination of nutrition messages dissemination
  • Participate in the planning for and implementation of trainings of the beneficiaries, volunteers and community Focal persons.
  • Conduct household surveys, individual follow-ups and monitoring nutrition Education activities
  • Train and support nutrition community focal points and Lead Mothers all along the project implementation
  • Monitor the work of community volunteers under its responsibility
  • Prepare Community level sensitization plans and topics in liaison with the supervisor.
  • Analyze the humanitarian situation, taking protection problems into consideration/Do no Harm to the population.
  • In liaison with supervisor, disseminate any relevant reporting tools to lead mothers and volunteers as may be required.
  • Ensure OTP (Out-patient Therapeutic Program) beneficiary defaulter tracing and other forms of beneficiary follow-ups at community level.
  • Work with Volunteers and Lead mothers to conduct Community screening and refferals for malnourished beneficiaries.
  • S/he will be responsiible for project sensitization and Mobilization at community level.
  • In Liaison with supervisor, Organize sensitizations sessions for the beneficiaries or community members according to the identified needs
  • To Represent PUI at various SBCC related fora as may be required.
  • Participate in assessments as may be required by the supervisor
Community Mobilization:
  • S/he will help nurture good collaboration between PUI and local community leaders
  • Act as a liaison with the local population and authorities in order to identify the needs, grievances and major events that could have potential consequences for PUI activities
  • Help to ensure that beneficiaries and local populations both understand the project goals and actively participate in their implementation.
Communication and Reporting:
  • Pass on any information or problems to his/her direct and/or indirect supervisor concerning his/her task, PUI programs, or safety aspects
  • Address any issues on the field with the beneficiaries or the community members and tell the line supervisor
  • Represent PUI at anytime and anywhere when s/he is in duty.
  • Collect and Compile data, pictures and information from the field to present weekly internal reports to the supervisor
  • Present weekly achievements, problems encountered and suggestion to improve the project implementation.
  • S/he will help strengthen the Organization’s community Feedback and complains system.
  • Keep monitoring tools and files archived at the PUI office, ensuring their availability to his/her supervisor.
Logistic & Administration:
  • Contribute to logistical and administrative organization of the activities
  • Contribute to the definition of the needs in materials and tools regarding the program and the planning of interventions.
  • Ensure the safety and good condition of all material provided by PUI
  • The tasks and responsibilities defined in this job description are non-exhaustive and can evolve depending on the project’s needs.
Priorities of the Department:
  • To follow up the sensitization sessions delivered to the Mother Care Groups participants
  • To ensure the quality of the messages delivered to the Mother care Group participants
  • To report any issue face with the Mother care group participants
  • To contribute to the qualitative reporting of the activities, especially data entry
  • To contribute to the proper filing and archiving of all the sources of verification
Qualifications Mandatory Requirements:
  • Language skills: Good command in English (speaking, reading & writing)
  • Fluent in local languages - Kanuri, Hausa, etc.
  • Education degree: Degree/Diploma in a Nutrition, Health or related discipline or certificate of secondary education with at least 3 year relevant experience in the sector
Work Experience:
  • At least 2 years’ experience in SBCC programing at community level
  • Demonstrated understanding of infant and Young Child Nutrition SBCC/IYCF education programs.
  • Conversant with Community screening for Malnutrition.
  • Previous experience with NGO is required
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Ministry of Health and traditional administrative systems and structure.
  • Conversant with Formal and traditional administrative systems and structure at the community level.
  • Previous experience in food security related programs is an asset
  • Community volunteer’s supervision.
  • Previous experience in Humanitarian assessment, monitoring and evaluation is an asset.
