We are recruiting to fill the position below:     Job Title: Senior Engineer Location: Lagos, Nigeria About the Role

  • In this role, you will primarily work as a Software Engineer within the Technology department building world-class learning technology to support the skill development of Andela developers at scale.
  • As the Software Engineer, you will take on complex tasks and complete them despite roadblocks, grabbing others for help or insight as necessary. You will require little oversight beyond high-level direction; you can take a complex user story, break it down into sub-tasks, and complete their sub-tasks with relative ease. You will show initiative beyond knocking tasks off a list; you are able to identify and suggest areas of future work for yourself or your team. You will drive product velocity and deliver products with confidence. You will take pride in building products that are key to helping Andela grow and scale as an organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Product Managers, Engineers and Stakeholders to understand the business requirements
  • Collaborate with a team of engineers to deliver complex software solutions that meet those needs
  • Own the full lifecycle of features from design, to implementation to deployment and maintenance
  • Promote and nurture good team practices such as TDD, code reviews, and pair programming
  • Participate and contribute during project planning sessions
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of software development experience
  • Strong understanding of computer science principles, system design, and architecture
  • Experience working in an agile environment (standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, etc)
  • Experience developing SaaS products, specifically ed-tech or learning technology
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and pair programming
  • Experience building both front-end and backend
  • Proficient in at least two (2) or more of the following technologies:
    • Javascript / Node.js
    • Angular / React
    • Postgres
    • Docker
    • AWS / Google Cloud
  • Solid written and verbal communication
  • Experience working remotely as an effective team member
  • A Bachelor's or advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field

  • The Pre-fellowship facilitator at Andela will be an essential part of Andela’s Talent team strategy. This is a critical role at Andela as the success of our Bootcamps depend on the quality of developers that we admit through programs that an individual in this role will run
  • S/he would report to a Lead Learning Facilitator within the Bootcamp team,  and work closely with other Facilitators, Community Managers e.t.c to set objectives, priorities, and implement and monitor program execution.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitating and leading hands-on workshops for community members and aspiring Andelans,  using Andela’s Homestudy Curriculum, and other Andela recommended or curated learning resources.
  • Ensuring that learners develop technical and team skills in alignment with Andela’s developer framework.
  • Tracking and managing learners engagement, learning velocity by ensuring that they complete their assessments on time and to a certain quality as guided by Andela principles and the design for the program being led
  • Identifying learners who are fit for Andela Bootcamp after a certain period as guided by Andela’s hiring plan.
  • Collaborating with the Curriculum team to provide insight into how our learning resources are being used, their efficacy, and how they could better support the learning of community members and aspiring Andelans.
  • Gather, document, and surface critical feedback for program efficacy and iteration
  • Deliver actionable feedback and watch people improve based on your input
  • Continuously level up your own skills and grow with/into the organization
Requirements Intermediate level experience with the following:
  • Building web applications, using modern HTML/CSS & JavaScript
  • Building web application backends using Node/Express and a relational database for persistence
  • Facilitating or leading hand-ons technical sessions of workshops, e.g in community events
  • Giving and receiving actionable feedback in a learning environment, and being guided by empathy
