Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a Danish international non-governmental organisation, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world. DRC is present in more than 30 conflict territories around the world assisting displaced people with shelter, food, income-generating activities, and a wide range of other assistance. We are recruiting to fill the positions below:   Job Title: Safety Officer Location: Maiduguri, Borno Contract type: National contract
The Position
  • Works within the safety procedures of DRC, municipal policies and procedures and in compliance with all national acts and legislation.
  • The safety Officer will support the Safety Team Leader and Area Manager in managing staff safety and security function for all operations conducted within the Borno state.
  • The Safety Officer serves as the focal person for staff safety and security during both everyday operations and emergencies. Supports the preparation of field travel authorisations and maintenance of staff information.
The Overall Purpose of the Role
  • The Safety Officer will maintain a high level of contextual awareness and strong coordination with Program and Program support teams at the field level.
  • The Safety Officer will report directly to the Safety Team Leader and assist in providing the Area Manager with Technical support from the Country Safety Coordinator and will be an integral part of DRC’s Safety Department.
  • The role is responsible for supporting the day to day oversight of DRC staff movements and ensuring that key information relevant to staff safety and security is disseminated. Advisories, Alerts and Reports to disseminate to all staff. Administrative and Safety operational tasks that support the day to day running of the Safety Departments Operations.
Responsibilities Staff movement oversight and support:
  • Field movement tracking: Coordinate with logistics staff when directed to support Field level movement oversight and support.
  • Ensure that appropriate access controls are in place for all DRC facilities
  • Conduct site assessments and advise on mitigation measures, as required
  • Travel Security Clearances: Prior to any movement complete all security briefings for staff travelling to high-risk field locations.
  • Ensure that established movement tracking protocols are adhered to by both the Safety Unit and all DRC staff.
Security incidents and data management:
  • Draft and disseminate detailed Email advisories for DRC staff when relevant and significant security incidents occur, or elevated threat levels are reported.
  • Draft and disseminate as required SMS alert advisories for DRC staff in the Safety Forum WhatsApp group when relevant and significant security incidents occur, or elevated threat levels are reported
Administrative and Operational support:
  • Maintain the Safety Departments current asset register and oversight on all assets that are both utilized and stored (Thuraya and/or Iridium satellite phones and radio).  Coordinate with the DRC Logistics and Procurement department to ensure that the overall DRC asset register reflects the Safety Departments current asset register.
  • Responsible for compiling daily, weekly and monthly report for the Safety Department.
  • Provide DRC staff with current contextual briefings on a daily basis.
  • Management of the guard force through ensuring standards of readiness is maintained, guard protocols adhered to and coordination with the guard force supervisors is routinely conducted.  Ensure that guard payments and other administrative matters that have a direct impact on guard force readiness are completed in a timely manner. Ensuring that the contracted guard force maintains a high standard of guarding for all DRC offices and residences, and when required take corrective action in coordination with the Guard force management
Support to International Visitors:
  • Conducting visitor briefings and orientation on DRC safety systems, and briefing on emergency procedures, and safe rooms etc.
  • Carry out any additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned by the Country Safety Coordinator.
  • Compile a current visitor arrival packet as directed. Responsible for maintaining the international visitor orientation record.
Key Requirements
  • Hostile Environment Individual Security Training (HEIST) Certificate (INSO)
  • 4-years of working experience with INGOs and/or other international agencies
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Stable, moral and robust character and a good team-player with excellent communication skills
  • Proven commitment to accountability practices and strong IT skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in a field related to Humanitarian Work or Security Management
  • Certificate in Basic Security Management (INSO)
  • Certificate in Advanced Security Management (INSO)
  • Certificate in Humanitarian Access Negotiation (INSO)
Desirable:
  • Demonstrative experience in INGO/NGO or UN field (operations) with experience of safety and security.
  • Knowledge of Hausa – an asset.
  • Competent and literate in English, verbal and written, with a sound knowledge of technical expressions.

Job Title: Protection Assistant Location: Michika, Adamawa Contract type: National contract
Job Description
  • This includes conduct Protection Monitoring, referrals and follow up of referrals, (including establishing referral pathways), identification of IPA beneficiaries and follow up of cases, psychosocial support activities, monitor the protection incentive workers’ work and manage them on a daily basis.
  • The Protection Assistant will also be responsible for supporting needs and programmatic assessments, supporting the preparation of activity and protection reports and analysis (information collection, community consultations etc.), identifying and communicating protection concerns in his/her locations, identifying and communicating programmatic needs in targeted locations, supporting the protection Officer in providing capacity building to key stakeholders, and in collecting and managing project data ensuring the highest standards of data and information protection and confidentiality.
  • The Protection Assistant, under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader, is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the various protection activities in the field locations under his/her responsibility.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare necessary activity and protection reports (weekly, monthly, ad hoc)
  • Represent DRC protection in all partner discussions at the field level
  • Participate and actively recruit casual social workers are needed.
  • Conduct community meetings, FGDs and other direct community activities as part of protection monitoring.
  • Document all protection activities on Kobo.
  • Carry out any delegated activities as assigned by DRC management at the field level including supervision of field bases.
  • Manage DRC protection assets assigned to the field of operation.
  • Liaise with security officers in DRC to keep up to date on the security situation of the field base at all times.
  • Support protection coordinator, the manager with itinerary planning for field visits including donor visits.
  • Provide detailed updates of activities within your designated field site.
  • Participate in conducting needs and programmatic assessments in targeted locations
  • Identify and intervene on protection cases in the camps and host communities with technical support from their line manager.
  • Refer protection cases to partner agencies and seek to solicit services for them.
  • Ensure all protection activities and cases re individually documented, filed and up to date in Kobo.
  • Engage with communities directly and create awareness on human rights, child protection, SGBV and other protection-related topics
  • Train community members, partner staff and other local authorities on protection topics
  • Identify protection trends and bring this to the attention of the line manager for action planning
  • Carry out advocacy and sensitization activities at the field level
  • Ensure the organization and the implementation of all protection activities at field level in accordance with the agreed Workplan (under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader and Manager) and the international standards
  • Ensure the management of the field protection incentive workers (team and work management)
Key Requirements Essentials:
  • Professional fluency in English and Hausa
  • Ability and willingness to maintain a regular presence at project sites (remote / field sites) and to work during irregular working hours and in insecure environments
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills – self-motivated individuals, able to take initiative and propose solutions, resilient, positive, and able to work independently.
  • Must have a basic level of computer skills.
  • Language skills: Hausa, English
  • Diploma or BA / B.Sc in a relevant field (Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Education, Counselling, Human Rights, Development Studies etc.)
  • More than 6 months of work experience in a humanitarian organization / with displacement affected populations or significant experience as a DRC Protection social or outreach worker
  • Knowledge of protection norms, principles, and activities
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and writing)
Desirables:
  • Knowledge of North-East Nigeria States languages including Margi added advantage.
  • Knowledge of protection activities

Job Title: Supply Chain - General Support (Fleet) Location: Borno Contract type: National contract
The Position
  • Responsible for running the day-to-day fleet aspects for the various emergency projects in response to the Maiduguri.
Key Requirements Essentials:
  • Good written and spoken English, knowledge of Hausa is a plus but not essential.
  • Ability to keep clear and concise records.
  • Attention to detail and excellent numeric accuracy.
  • Possession of a minimum of OND in Social Sciences from a reputable higher institution.

Job Title: Watsan Assistant Location: Banki, Borno Contract type: National contract
The Position
  • The Watsan Assistant primary function is to assist the Watsan Officer to ensure all-round operation of the mechanised and non-mechanised water points operated by DRC in the camp.
General Operations
  • Mobilization of beneficiary communities to maintain the established/rehabilitated/protected water sources.
  • Collaborate with relevant Internal and External technical experts on issues related to WASH.
  • Ensure the integration of WASH activities with other DRC sectors.
  • Coordinate with WASH and Shelter counterparts in other locations in the implementation of common funded projects.
  • Ensure good representation and reputation of WASH and Shelter sector at all levels.
  • Actively participate in internal coordination
  • Provide preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs to water facility, troubleshooting and repairs to water treatment equipment.
  • Collect operating data and record, as well as document all installations, inspections, maintenance and repair work.
  • She/he will assist in Effectively identify problems as they occur and take appropriate steps to solve them, including performing repair or referring more complex issues to supervisor. Participate in preparing monthly/quarterly/annual highlights/ reports and proposals and budgets for donors.
Key Requirements Essentials:
  • Sound knowledge of installation and repair of solar systems.
  • Sound knowledge of diesel generator sets and electrical systems repair.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of water supply systems.
Desirables:
  • Fluency in local spoken languages.
  • Applicant should be a resident of Bama Town.
  • Certificate in electrical or mechanical works
