Credit Risk Underwriter at Umba

Umba combines advanced tools and techniques to optimize risk exposures in emerging markets that are currently underserved by traditional banking services. The Umba platform allows users to apply, receive and repay microloans through their mobile phone while using machine learning to underwrite using a risk score that is highly accurate and improves over time.

Objective

• To assess and credit underwrite new business applications for the Umba Business product suite and provide input in the to decisioning process for consumer lending operations
• Our credit risk envision for umba: Being a credit risk underwriter at Umba is to be the eyes of the business through advanced analytical techniques to help build a sustainable lending proposition for our customers and stakeholders.

Requirements
Things we think that would help to be a key player for this role:

• At least 2 years experience in credit underwriting at a commercial bank, OFI or fintech, in either consumer or SME lending
• Ability to analyze complex financial statements to understand the underlying cashflows of a business and make a sound judgment on credit worthiness
• Ability and desire to navigate through data, metrics or dashboards to answer business questions
• Experience of building, developing or maintaining automated credit decisioning systems is a plus.
• For this role, intermediate knowledge of Excel is required, and SQL skills highly desirable in order to maximize data driven decisioning at Umba
• Experience of financial products, particularly lending, is a must
