We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

 


Job Title: Financial Accountant

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time (Hybrid)
Reporting To: Chief Finance Officer (CFO)
Area of direct responsibility: Financial management of the company

Responsibilities

  • Advisor to Management and Project Leads, to give real-time updates on forecast outcomes
  • Develop and regularly update the company’s Xero Financial Management system with daily transactions and adhere to the coding system, ledgers and other standard financial management systems and instruments.
  • Prepare reconciliations of all local and international bank accounts.
  • Carry out disbursement of all approved payments, and ensure all supporting documentation is in order.
  • Prepare and present monthly management accounts and monitor cash flow
  • Prepare and present Management Accounts for funders, lenders and investors
  • Prepare and present budgets for core operations and live projects
  • Prepare and present quarterly cash flow forecasts for core operations and live projects
  • Proactively monitor and re-forecast operational and project cash flows in terms of:
    • Spends
    • Budget usage
    • Cash needs
    • Potential under and over-spends
    • Company financial position
  • Prepare annual financial statements

Statutory Requirements:

  • Adhere to the requirements of all relevant Nigerian legislation, bringing these to the attention of the MD where applicable and implementing relevant changes in procedures.
  • Ensure correct calculation, and deduction of withholding tax (WHT) on all qualified transactions, prepare WHT schedule for the MD’s review, and facilitate timely remittance to relevant Tax Authorities as required by the Company Income Tax (CIT) Act and Personal Income Tax (PIT) Act, 2011 as amended.
  • Support the calculation and monthly remittance of VAT to FIRS and maintain adequate records for audit purposes.
  • Ensure timely preparation & submission of Currency Transaction Report
  • (CTR/CBTR) to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) as required by the Money Laundering Prohibition Act (MLP) 2011 and the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) 2011.
  • Ensure and maintain company compliance with statutory insurance and
  • Health Management Organisation (HMO) requirements for staff and equipment.
  • Ensure and maintain company compliance with statutory insurance to cover professional indemnity.

Grants Management Support:

  • Ensure prudent disbursement of grants to project partners.
  • Review the monthly/quarterly financial report of grantees for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the donor regulations and relevant laws.
  • Follow up with the grantees on any audit/compliance issues to a logical conclusion.
  • Review the grantee's budgets and provide quality assurance checks on their budget management.

Financial Integrity & Compliance:

  • Work with all departments in coordinating financial audits and liaise with auditors as directed by the MD and act upon the audit findings.
  • Take initiative on cutting costs to promote value for money and relevant cost principles.

Logistics & Project Administration:

  • Support the Admin Team on all local and regional logistic arrangements, liaise with them, and ensure proper arrangements are made for traveller’s flights, accommodation, ground transport workshops, and field trips.
  • Support shipping importation and in-country transportation of equipment
  • Support the Admin Team on all project administration tasks, including petty cash supervision, and procurement as may be necessary.
  • Work with the admin officer (procurement support) for the procurement of IT Fixed Assets in line with the Procurement Policy and maintenance of asset register.
  • Ensure the procured IT support services are implemented appropriately for the number of users that are supported - office internet subscription, anti-virus, etc.

  • Principal roles & responsibilities will change occasionally & the post holder is required to undertake any additional duties as deemed appropriate
  • Staff are required to participate in training, national and international meetings or conferences considered relevant to their job

Person Specification
Essential Criteria:

  • B.Sc Accounting / Finance / Economics / related course
  • At least five years experience in a similar role
  • Experience of Xero accounting and API-linked analysis and forecasting
  • At least five years experience of working in a project funded environment
  • Experience of liaising with external and statutory auditors
  • Experience of working with international funders and companies
  • Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in business and project modelling using Excel / Google sheets
  • Experience of using cloud-based accounting software
  • Experience of working to the standards demanded by public funding bodies
  • Has knowledge of Nigerian financial reporting and compliance requirements
  • Practical experience of international transactional processes
  • ACCA/ACA or AAT Qualified / CIMA Part-Qualified

Desirable Criteria:

  • M.Sc Finance / MBA
  • Experience of cloud project management platform (Accelo, Teamworks etc)
  • Experience of managing inventories
  • Knowledge of renewables, in particular waste to energy systems
  • Is familiar with carbon finance and or asset finance
  • Successful bid writer
  • Experience of licence and royalties transactions

Remuneration
N500,000 - N700,000 Monthly.
