Architect Duties & Responsibilities

The role and function of an Architect includes the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Architects consult with other professionals about the design of an environment;
  • Preparing and presenting feasibility reports and design proposals to the client;
  • Advising the client on the practicality of their project;
  • Using IT in design and project management, specifically using computer-aided design software;
  • Architects keep within financial budgets and deadlines;
  • Discussing the objectives, requirements and budget of a project;
  • Ensuring that the environmental impact of the project is managed.
  • Architects prepare applications for planning and building control departments;
  • Negotiating with contractors and other professionals;project managing and helping to coordinate the work of contractors;
  • Architects control a project from start to finish;
  • Preparing tender documents for contracts;
  • Architects specify the nature and quality of materials required;
  • Producing detailed workings, drawings and specifications;
  • Resolving problems and issues that arise during construction;
  • Architects prepare tender applications and presentations;
  • Regular site visits to check on progress, ensuring that the project is running on time and to budget;
