Field Trials Officer Duties & Responsibilities

The role and function of a Field Trials Officer includes the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Setting research aims and objectives
  • Plan, prepare and organise trials, either on-site or in the laboratory
  • Monitor field conditions in close detail
  • Apply chemicals to trials
  • Design and develop experiments
  • Liaising with clients, research personnel and technical development staff
  • Producing project plans and budgets
  • Communicating unfavourable results from tests, including trials failures
  • Writing technical publications and reports
  • Keeping up to date with current developments
  • Making presentations
  • Collecting, recording, analysing and interpreting data
  • Observing field conditions
  • Following strict test guidelines
  • Assessing the prevalence of diseases and/or pests
  • Considering selections for breeding purposes
  • Attending trade shows and demonstrations
  • Using specialist computer applications for recording and analysing data.
