Associate, Data Analysis at Evidence Action

Job Title: Associate, Data Analysis

Description

  • The Associate, Data Analysis will analyze and extract actionable recommendations from information collected from all of Evidence Action’s programs.
  • The role will require review and analysis of various survey data, and systematic documentation of the analytical efforts used to reach the evidence-based recommendations.
  • S/he will contribute to the development of appropriate measurement, sampling, and survey strategies and the design of survey instruments to gather quantitative and qualitative data.
  • This position will be a critical piece of the Data Analysis team that operates within Evidence Action’s broader Monitoring, Learning, and Evaluation (MLE) team.

Duties and Responsibilities
Monitoring and Evaluation Support:

  • The Associate, Analysis will provide support and guidance to Evidence Action’s monitoring systems:
  • Contribute to the design of the program monitoring processes to ensure appropriate measurements, sampling, and survey strategies
  • Support the design and testing of survey instruments and other research tools that will enable clear and meaningful analysis
  • Support in the development of key program indicators for measuring of program components and of assessing program outputs and outcomes
  • Maintain a service oriented, client-based approach in considering the core research questions held by Evidence Action program teams that will facilitate operational and cost-efficiency improvements.

Analysis:

  • The Associate, Analysis will coordinate analysis activities of administrative and monitoring data for program teams.
  • Cleaning and analyzing administrative and monitoring data of programs to inform programmatic decision-making
  • Identify, analyze and interpret patterns and trends in data to help in diagnosis and prediction
  • Provide key analytical and knowledge inputs from program data for articles, policy briefs, memos and major proposals
  • Develop and update data analysis protocols and systems
  • Conduct geospatial analysis of program data to discover the expected and unexpected trends
  • Identify research questions, write technical/research papers and disseminate results to program teams
  • Conduct data quality checks at each stage of program monitoring: highlight recurring data quality issues with the program team and provide recommendations for course correction when necessary
  • Produce data reports and lists to support day to day implementation of the program
  • Identify and produce well-designed statistical measurements to express results of program data.
  • Build and update dashboards and info-graphics to visualize results of program data
  • Extract meaning, in-depth analysis of program data to provides insightful interpretations of data.
  • Support data requests from the program team(s), as needed

Data Management:

  • The Associate, Data Analysis will play a prominent role in developing and implementing strong data management systems for program teams
  • Document all data management procedures and lessons learned to increase the quality and reliability of data collection for future years and for other geographies
  • Responsible for maintaining and organizing all data files on identified platforms (like Box etc.) as per agreed protocols
  • Support in the development and documentation of data management protocols and tools
  • Ensure adherence to data management and analysis protocols in all data collection and analysis activities
  • Maintain proper documentation of all analysis files for ease of replication and explain methodology used in analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Economics, Statistics or another quantitative field.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience in quantitative data analysis
  • Ability to work under pressure in a working environment that changes suddenly to accommodate new data needs
  • Should possess strong attention to detail, have real passion of working with data, be able to think and tell a story from the data (Key desirable)
  • Self-directed/self-motivating personality, with proven ability to manage demands from multiple supervisors while adhering to program deadlines and priorities
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, research writing and presentation skills
  • Intellectual flexibility and willingness to form and adjust opinions based on evidence
  • Quick to learn, motivated to self-teach and capable of independently translating new knowledge into practice
  • Willingness to travel
  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience in an analytical and quantitative role
  • Should have real passion of working with data, be able to think and tell a story from the data
  • Strong working knowledge of quantitative statistical software packages such as Stata, R, etc. with the ability to learn and adapt to new programs (experience with Stata, R and excel highly preferred)
  • Experience in working with mapping software such as GIS, ArcGIS, R, etc
  • Experience in data visualization and reporting software such as R-shiny and Power BI
  • Strong mathematical skills and proficiency in statistics to help identify patterns and trends and interpret data
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills to work effectively with a team that is geographically dispersed
  • In addition, this position requires a candidate to:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Statistics field
  • Strong working knowledge of Stata and R statistical software packages
  • Strong mathematical skills and proficiency in statistics
  • Self-directed/self-motivating personality, with proven ability to manage demands from multiple supervisors while adhering to program deadlines and priorities
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills to work effectively with a team that is geographically dispersed
