AIDS Healthcare Foundation is registered in Nigeria as Foundation for AIDS Care Prevention and Advocacy but collectively referred to as AHF Nigeria. AHF Nigeria works in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health to provide free HIV/AIDS services; HIV prevention and treatment (ART), capacity building and advocacy in resource constrained settings.

AHF-Nigeria currently operates in 7 states including; Benue, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Kogi, Cross River, Anambra, Akwa Ibom and supports numerous clinics country wide.

Job Title: Laboratory Scientist

Location: Nasarawa
Reports to: Lad Services Manager / State Clinical Coordinator

Job Summary

  • Provide laboratory support to AHF supported sites and monitor adherence to standard laboratory protocols and guidelines.
  • Involved in training, support supervision, mentorship, and team building exercises for laboratory staff.
  • Directly supervises laboratory technicians and other lab personnel on routine lab assays, demonstrates experience in viral load sample management, automated and semi-automated equipment handling and use (running the Cyflow for CD4+, Chemistry and Hematology machines).
  • Ensures quality management system in the lab and implementation of laboratory services in line with approved QC/QA protocols at supported healthcare centers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides routine and basic laboratory service for PLHIV attending the health facilities as required;
  • Supports laboratory services provision, ensures standard, and current practices are in place for maintaining high quality laboratory services including calibration, standardization and maintenance of automated or semi-automated instruments following established procedures.
  • Participate in EQA and proficiency testing activities.
  • Support in ensuring compliance and implementation of laboratory protocols for all lab technicians and assistance involved with the lab function: including maximizing the use of available resources.
  • Coordinates with all laboratory vendors (external contractors) and supported sites to ensure that the process of handling patient samples and delivery of results is efficient and effective.
  • Participates in the development and replication of te AHF Nigeria laboratory protocols and practices at all affiliated healthcare centers.
  • Validates and reports, results of assays performed, delivers patients reports according to times indicated in policy and collection manual and ensuring strict adherence to safety procedures.
  • Participates in identifying training needs, capacity building, mentorship and team building exercises for laboratory staff;
  • Participates in inventory control management for laboratory supplies and reagents under AHF Nigeria for all supported sites;
  • Ensures the compilation of monthly laboratory inventory at the supported Healthcare Centers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Candidates should possess BMLS, AMLSCN
  • Experience with handling fully or semi-automated machines a must;
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a similar position.
  • Must posses a valid license to practice as a medical laboratory scientist.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Duly registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria and hold a current annual practicing license.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Job Title: Pharmacist

Location: Anambra
Reports to: Pharmacy Manager / State Clinical Coordinator

Job Summary

  • Pharmacist coordinates pharmacy- related activities in AHF supported sites through mentorship of pharmacy staff in medication adherence counselling, pharmaceutical care, provision of relevant drug information, quality assurance of pharmaceuticals, quality improvement of pharmacy services, implementation of appropriate drug dispensing protocols and pharmacy best practices.
  • Works with clinicians to ensure rational drug use, monitor adverse drug reactions, appropriate drug regimen, and improved clinical outcomes of anti-retroviral therapy in patients across AHF Nigeria-supported health facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews prescriptions from AHF care providers to assure accuracy, clinical appropriateness and rational drug use (in accordance with standard guidelines including the current National Guidelines for HIV Prevention, Treatment and Care) across AHF Nigeria - supported health facilities.
  • Supervises pharmacy personnel on pharmaceutical procedures including monitoring and management of adverse drug reactions and medication adherence counseling during supportive supervisory visits to all AHF Nigeria-supported health facilities.
  • Answers questions and provides information to patients and health care providers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
  • Ensures implementation of pharmacy best practices (pharmaceutical care of patients, standard drug dispensing protocols, standard storage of drugs, implementation of the first-to expire, first-out procedure in the drug stores in all AHF Nigena-supported health facilities.
  • Ensures availability of anti-retroviral drugs and drugs for opportunistic infections by issuing drugs as required at all AHF Nigeria health facilities from the AHF Country Office Store.
  • Manages all drug inventory procedures at the Country level. Works with relevant clinic personnel in all AHF Nigeria sites to maintain accurate drugs records system through appropriate drug inventory systems for efficient drug logistics management.
  • Monitors National Pharmacy Indicators in all AHF sites for quality improvement.
  • Ensures appropriate drug reference materials, National treatment guidelines, National Standard Operating Procedures Manuals for Logistics Management of HIV/AIDS Commodities and pediatric dosing wheels are provided for the relevant staff.
  • Assists the Pharmacy Manager in preparing a quarterly drug forecast.
  • Coordinates drug procurement processes from AHF Nigeria pre-qualified drug vendors.
  • Reviews drug report to ensure submission of accurate and auditable monthly and b-monthly drug reports from AHF clinic sites to the organization, Federal Ministry of Health, and National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Program.
  • Collaborates with the Federal Ministry of Health HIV/AIDS Division, National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Program and Supply Chain Management System/John Snow Incorporated on pharmaceutical and drug logistics is-sues.
  • Represents AHF Nigeria in State, Regional, and National Procurement and Supply Chain Management Logistics Technical Working Group Meetings, as well as Federal Ministry of Health Workshops.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree (B.Pharm.)

Job Title: Program Assistant

Location: Benue
Reports to: Operations Manager

Job Summary

  • The Program Assistant - Admin will provide customer services, support in hotel bookings; flight bookings for both AHF Nigeria guests for Benue, Cross River, Anambra, and Akwa Ibom States.
  • The assistant will provide secretariat services for the AHF Nigeria Benue State office.
  • Supports procurement and supply chain management of goods and supplies to supported health facilities and the program as a whole.

Essential Duties / Responsitilities
Administration Duties:

  • Supports procurement and supply chain management of goods and supplies to supported health facilities and the program as a whole.
  • Support in hotel bookings, flight bookings for both AHF Nigeria guests and staff
  • Acts as Front Desk Officer
  • Supervises appropriate utilization of program vehicles; responsible for the scheduling of program vehicles to field activities

Job Title: Data Assistant

Location: Benue
Reports to: ART Clinician / M & E Officer

Job Summary

  • The Data Assistant will be responsible for all data reporting-related activities of the site programs in line with reporting requirements.
  • This includes implementing M&E framework, maintenance of monitoring data collections systems at site. He/she will also contribute to the design and assist the M&E Manager in conducthg program assessments and evaluations to promote aculture of evidence-based decision making.

Essential Duties and Resposibillities

  • Responsible for the implementation of monitoring and Evaluation activities in the field.
  • Support the development and strengthening of AHFNigeria Monitoring and Evaluation Systems.
  • Manage and Update site level database and ensure timely reports to the country office.
  • Ensure correct use of M&E tools at the site and outpost and logistics of tools.
  • Provide mentoring out-post facility and CBO’s to ensure that the data entered into the facility database are accurate, consistent and according to stardard operating procedures.
  • Ensure data are reported according to the approved datafiow and timelines and attend to any other duties assigned.
  • Ensure all data are fed into OpenMRS, webPPR, Site database and state DHIS.
  • Daily entry of records into the OpenMRS for effective storage and backup for effective monitonng and assessing the performance of client’s health and program at site level.
  • Monitor the sites programs in the collection, analysis, reporting and use of output data for program improvement at site level.
  • Supervise site level data reporting cycle to ensure high quality and coute data are sent to the country office on a periodic basis, or when required.

Job Summary

  • Provide laboratory support to AHF supported sites and adhere to standard laboratory protocols and guidelines in the country program.
  • Participate in training and supportive visit and team building exercises for laboratory staff.
  • Directly supports HIV Medics running laboratory investigations which includes handling the Partec CD4 + counter, PIMA POG CD4 counter, fully or semi automated Chemistry and Haematology analyzers, viral load sample management and ensuring the quality of routine lab assays and general laboratory services is maintained at all time.

Essential Duties and Responsibities

  • Provides routine and basic laboratory services for PLHIV attending the healthfacilities as required;

Job Title: Senior Nursing Officer

Job Summary

  • The senior Nursing Officer would work closely with the clinician/Site Coordinator in ensuring smooth implementation of the ART service delivery within the facility.
  • He/She will directly supervise the ART nurse in providing topnotch HIV care, treatment and prevention programs.
  • This position is crucial to the achievement of AHF Nigeria’s programmatic targets and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilites

  • In close collaboration with the facility medical officer, ensure the provision of quaIity, evidence-based ART, PMTCT, prevention and TB services.
  • Supervises the provision of skilled nursing procedures (i.e. dressing changes).
  • Ensures that medication administration is within the scope of practice of the licensee.
  • Directly performs or monitors the provision of phlebotomy and/or initiates intravenous infusions as ordered.
  • Attends and participates in team conferences as requested.
  • Acts as a team leader to assist with the provision and supervision of patient care in the health facilities.

Job Title: State Clinical Coordinator

Location: Anambra
Reports to: Medical Director

Job Summary

  • The State Clinical Coordinator directly oversees all medical activities, at AHF-Nigeria supported facilities in the located State, in Nigeria, covering all comprehensive sites and outposts within the State/region and see to the expansion of services within the State/region in Nigeria, ensuring delivery of high-quality standard of care for all patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Management:

  • As a Coordinator he/she oversees medical, AHF operations in the State and supports the Country Program Manager to efficiently and effectively deliver quality clinical services in the state/region.
  • He/she will lead the expansion of AHF Program within the state.
  • Provide technical supports to Prevention and Treatment program and ensure linkage of outreach activities to treatment and care program through well-established processes of patient linkages and service integration.
  • Attends key technical partners meetings and provides feedback to management through the Medical Director.
  • Ensures that CMEs are conducted in all sites and participates in the facilitation of CME sessions.
  • He/she participates in staff need assessment and induction of new hired staff.
  • He/she participates in setting performance targets and staff appraisal, disciplining and addressing complaints of employees under his/her supervision.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Ensure standard quality of clinical services at all AHF supported sites in his/her region.
  • Provide periodic comprehensive support supervision report, adhering to the tools provided by AHF.
  • Promotes the implementation of standard operating procedures for all activities relating to good clinical practice and ensure functional QI teams are in existence at site levels.
  • Supervise and implement quality management activities and quality benchmarks monitoring, facilitation of quality assurance and quality improvement sessions.
  • Strengthen TB/HIV, PMTCT, ART services through integrated service delivery and provision of quality services in the state program.
  • Ensures optimal operations of the laboratory services, including functioning of sample referral networks at regional level.
  • Provide on-site technical support and mentoring to the field staff and coordinate M&E of the project.
  • Ensures effective patient flow in all sites, especially those with high volume of patients and coordinate time motion surveys to monitor performance.
  • Oversees the timely collection, compilation and reporting of routine and specific data to guide decision making at site, regional and country program level.
  •  Identify early warning resistance indicators and intervention strategies.
  • Remain updated on current trends and standards in clinical management of HIV/AIDS and related illnesses.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct supervision and mentorship to doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists, pharmacy technician working in the different facilities in the region to ensure continuous growth and learning.
  • Ensure timely compilation and submission of monthly drug inventory reports in coordination with the Program pharmacist.
  • Work with the program pharmacist to ensure that pharmacy operations are in accordance with good pharmacy practices.
  • Identify and promote operational research at state level and build capacity among the staff in case presentations and elaboration of scientific papers

Education and Experience

  • Must be Medical Doctor from a recognized institution.
  • Additional qualification in Health systems management or public health will be an added advantage.
  • Must possess a valid license to practice as a Medical Doctor.
  • Five years medical/health service experience preferred with a sound knowledge of basic medical disciplines to allow for accurate diagnosis and appropriate management of clinical problems.
  • Five years or more of recent experience with HIV/AIDS treatment; three years minimum of administration and program management experience with knowledge of clinical protocols and procedures in the management of HIV related diseases.

Job Title: Community HTS Assistant

Location: Nasarawa State
Reports to: Prevention Coordinator

Job Summary

  • To reader quality counselling and psychosocial support to clients. Refer clients for appropriate additional psychosocial and clinical support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
HTS Duties:

  • Provide HIV Testing Services to all clients willing to conduct HIV test.
  • Participates in the coordination of community outreaches and campaigns.
  • Support the linkage of clients newly diagnosed with HIV to care, support and treatment and HIV negative clients to appropriate HIV prevention services.
  • Keep comprehensive directory of facilities offering ART and other related prevention services.
  • Provide support to decentralized HTS points to provide quality services,
  • Provide support (where needed) in ensuring a coordinated inventory management and ensure supply of RTKs and consumables to HTS sites.
  • Ensure HTS data collection and reporting tools are available and are regularly updated to ensure completeness at all times

Adherence Counselling duties:

  • Collaborate with other health care professionals (doctor, nurse, social worker, community health care worker, home-based caregiver, psychologist.) in maintaining treatment protocol.
  • Counsel and refer patients and family on disease prevention and staying healthy.
  • Support adherence counselling for patients on HIV treatment and document the session outcomes in the counselling form.
  • Provide ongoing psychosocial counselling and other form of support to PLHIV.
  • Provide support for activities of PLHIV support groups in the community and contribute to racking lost to follow up cases.
  • Treatment literacy and general duties.
  • Support the conduct of treatment literacy sessions for patients prior to ART initiation and provide them with the clinical and laboratory goals of ARV's.

  • The ART Clinician / Sites Coordinator oversees the ART, PMTCT and prevention services of the AHF program at the state/facilities level. This position is crucial to the achievement of AHF Nigeria’s programmatic targets and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • In close coordination with the facility health care workers, ensure the provision of quality, evidence-based ART, PMTCT, prevention and TB services.
  • Coordinate monthly patient care team and other meetings.
  • Ensure efficient management of AHF’s finances and provide complete, timely and accurate reports.
  • Implement a continuous quality assurance and improvement program at the site level.
  • Supervise other staff at the state/facilities level.
  • Ensures that all disseminated protocols are strictly adhered to by site staff.

Job Title: Driver / Storekeeper

Location: Benue
Reports to: Operations Manager

Job Summary

  • The Driver / Storekeeper will be responsible to execute the warehouse storing activities in order to keep stock above security level and following recommended conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.) under the supervision of the operations manager, and in collaboration with the logistics team.
  • The Driver/Store Keeper is also responsible for managing the day to day operations of the means of transport like buses, vans, trucks and the drivers of the organization.
  • S(h)e sees to it that staff members are safe, and makes sure that they don’t face any transportation-related problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for dispatching the proper loading of program vehicles;
  • Must adhere to security and operational procedures;
  • Ensures that vehicle log books are properly filled by drivers every month and submitted to Finance for review;
  • Performs duties of the transport department and any other related duties whenever required;
  • Provides mentorship for all drivers to ensure their driving skills are up to standard;
  • Gives timely reports on the working condition of company vehicles and equipment;
  • Responsible for filing reports for any delay, incident or accident;
  • Keeps communication open with drivers, day program staff, staff members etc regarding transportation means;
  • Coordinates the maintenance and repair of vehicles on a timely manner;
  • Must oversee and schedule the day to day activities of transportation employees (drivers);
  • Will be required to serve as a driver.
  • Supervising material orders and dispatching in order to ensure rational use.
  • Receiving orders and deliveries, identifying potential disparities against cargo manifest or others and reporting them, and stores materials in accordance with the system in force, in order to ensure continuous availability. It includes:
  • Ensuring good storage conditions of all medical items in the pharmacy in accordance with pharmaceutical standards in order to ensure continuous availability.
  • Ensuring correct fill in entries on the stock cards and software.
  • Carrying out or participating in regular inventories including EPREP stock.
  • Following up stock levels with regards to alarms thresholds, stock out, expiry dates and drugs to expire in the following 6 months.
  • Preparing orders of the different consumption units (departments, wards, others), ensuring proper packaging and dispatching and reporting any anomalies or changes in consumption patterns to the Pharmacy Supervisor. Informing Pharmacy Supervisor as soon as stock reaches alert limit.
  • Controlling warehouse facilities in order to ensure materials are kept in good keeping conditions, it includes:
  • Ensuring cleanliness of premises (stock pharmacy) and in close collaboration with the logistics department maintaining refrigerating equipment.
  • Controlling warehouse limited access to authorized personnel and ensuring doors and other exits are secured. Immediately informing the line manager of any problems arising in the course of the work, particularly with regards to damage, loss, attempted break-ins or theft in the warehouse.
  • Receive all supplies and update stock cards accordingly.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of First Degree or HND in related field;
  • Certification in logistics and inventory management is an added advantage;
  • Possession of a valid Driving License including class D vehicles;
  • Possession of certificate in logistics and fleet management;
  • Over three (3) years of store management and driving experience in a reputable organization.
  • Essential previous experience of at least 2 years in similar or relevant positions.
  • Proficiency in computer operations.
  • Good organizational skills in order to coordinate and see that all the employees are getting their transport on time.
