Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi (FUAM) - The Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi (FUAM) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the vacant position below:     Job Title: Field Assistant Location: Makurdi, Benue Position Responsibilities Field Assistant will contribute to the field activities of the project titled "Genetic Improvement of cowpea for Striga/Alectra resistance using molecular tools in Nigeria under direct supervision of the Project Leader. He/she will:

• Contribute to deployment of cowpea genetic improvement.
• Coordinate all field activities.

Educational Qualifications

• The candidate should have a WASC.

Core Competencies:

• Have valid drivers license
• Field crop establishment and data collection.

Additional Information

• The job position is for a period of two years renewable subject to availability of funds.

    Job Title: Research Technician Location: Makurdi, Benue Position Responsibilities Research-will contribute to the field activities of the project titled “Genetic improvement of cowpea for Striga/Alectra resistance using molecular tools in Nigeria under direct supervision of the Project Leader. He/she will:

• Contribute to development and deployment for cowpea genetic improvement.
• Provide leadership and be responsible for coordination of all field activities.

Educational Qualifications

• The candidate should have an OND/HND in Crop Production, Plant Science or Pest Management.

Core Competencies:

• Statistical analysis and reporting
• Field crop establishment and data collection
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Additional Information

• The job position is for a period of two years renewable subject to availability of funds.

    Job Title: Laboratory Manager Location: Makurdi, Benue Position Responsibilities Laboratory Manager will contribute to the activities of the project titled "Genetic improvement of cowpea for Striga/Alectra resistance using molecular tools in Nigeria under direct supervision of the Project Leader. He/she will:

• Contribute to genomic resource development for cowpea breeding for biotic stresses.
• Contribute to DNA sequencing, bioinformatics and statistical analysis
• Supervise undergraduate, and postgraduate students working in the lab.
• Assist the Project Leader in implementing key activities of the project.

Educational Qualifications

• The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Plant Genetics, or Cell Biology

Core Competencies:

• Isolation and Gel analysis of DNA from plantand animal
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Data management and reporting of lab activities.
• Experience (at least 2 years) in conducting molecular activities.
• Knowledge of Marker-assisted Breeding
• Spectrophotometric analysis
• Electrophoresis and DNA ANALYSIS
• DNA Extraction
