Premiere Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious international aid organization. Our teams are committed to supporting civilians’ victims of marginalization and exclusion, or hit by natural disasters, wars and economic collapses, by answering their fundamental needs. Our aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people in order to help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency.

PUI has been implementing humanitarian activities in Nigeria since April 2016, supporting population with food security, nutrition, health and protection project in Maiduguri and Borno State.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

 

Job Title: Midwife Assistant

Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Contract Start Date: 1st June, 2021
Contract End Date: 31st July, 2021 (renewable based on availability of funding)

General Objective

  • The midwife assistant will work under the direction and supervision of a registered midwife, within the agreed policies/procedures laid down by PUI, the midwife is responsible and accountable for any decision to delegate the assistant midwife based on sound clinical judgment on assigned task /procedure.

Responsibilities and Tasks
Patient Care:

  • Prepare all the material and equipment and ensure that everything is ready before starting the activities.
  • Perform rapid evaluation of sick pregnant women, including vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, respiration); and concurrently finding out the history of present and past illnesses either from her or relatives.
  • Assist Midwife to perform antenatal consultations including screening tests according to the protocols, detect and mention all the risk factors
  • Assist midwife to conduct delivery according to the protocols, precautions, hygiene standards
  • Assist midwife to perform postnatal consultations during the 6 weeks following the delivery.
  • Observe changes in the condition of women in ANC, labor and report promptly to the midwife.
  • Assist midwife to perform family planning consultations and counseling according to protocol.
  • Give systematic prophylactic treatments to pregnant women.
  • Verify the tetanus vaccination of each pregnant woman
  • Inform the midwife about the condition of a pregnant woman who may need quick intervention before referral to a higher level of care.
  • Assist the midwives in clinical areas with obstetric emergencies and referrals according to PUI protocols and regulation.
  • Assist the midwife to resuscitate a pregnant /postpartum women/newborn before transfer
  • Follow initial assessment done by a midwife and continue care plan, undertake routine observation and report any abnormalities to the midwife.
  • Identify Sexually Gender-Based Violence victims and collaborate with the medical team for treatment.
  • Explain clearly the diagnosis and treatment to the patient and make sure that the patients comply with the treatment.
  • Assist midwives with admission and discharge of mothers and babies.
  • Support women with personal hygiene as required.
  • Monitor and measure fluid intake and output and record on the chart.
  • Takes accurate vital signs and document on the chart and report concerns to the midwife.
  • Collect and label specimens as instructed by midwife and send to the laboratory.
  • Decontaminate instruments as per set standards, before sending to the sterilization unit.
  • Provide individual and group health education to patients concerning safe motherhood, care of the new born, IYCF (Infant and Young child feeding), Family Planning and general Sexual Health.
  • Provide malnutrition prevention including MUAC and weight measurements of children.
  • Providing information, emotional support, and reassurance to women and their partners.
  • Actively participate in the good cohesion and coordination of the team.
  • Participate in the follow-up of waste management according to the waste management procedures.
  • Ensure that all patients and their relatives are treated equally, with respect of ethical and confidential issues and according to Première Urgence Internationale chart.

Medical Data Collection and Reporting:

  • Record accurately and on a readable manner, the clinical case management, beneficiary information and intervention on health card (history taking, physical examination, treatment, investigation, etc.) and patient registration book.
  • Ensure an accurate daily use and tracking of epidemiological data.
  • Participate in the daily tracking of consumption of the drugs and materials used from the medical box.
  • Participate in the weekly medical statistic report in collaboration with SRH Supervisor and the deputy program manager.
  • Report to the supervisor any problem especially the gap/loss/robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines or any patient and organizational issue.
  • Ensure a clear verbal and written hand over at every end of the shift, with emphasis on specific events.

Other Duties:

  • Adhere to the supervisor with regards to work schedules, record keeping, patient communications, re-stocking of necessary drugs, consumables and other items.
  • Participate in any other activities such as vaccination, survey according to the needs and as directed
  • Participate actively in meetings when required.
  • Inform the direct supervisor of the various needs.
  • Maintain the working environment in a clean and presentable state.
  • Comply with PUI security procedures at all times.
  • Remain aware of the security situation in office and clinic locations at all times and provide feedback to the health program manager.

Qualifications and Required Skills
Mandatory Requirements:

Education Degree:

  • Recognized Midwifery Degree or be a Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) qualified under the Nigerian Health Care Legislation.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Midwifery or SRH especially in maternity.
  • Work experience with other ngo’s would be an asset.

Language Skills:

  • Good Command in english (Speaking, Reading & Writing) and fluent in local languages (Hausa and Kanuri).

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Technical knowledge about use of medical equipment

Job Title: Psychosocial Worker

Location: Maiduguri

General Objectives

  • Under the direct supervision of the MHPSS Project Manager, the psychosocial worker will perform all MHPSS activities in the field, including the provision of individual and group sessions, referrals to other services and conduct awareness sessions.
  • S/he will fill data records, and perform data entry on a weekly basis.
  • S/He will take part in weekly office meetings, attend formal trainings, on job trainingand provide weekly case presentations.

Responsibilities and Task
Implementation and Monitoring of the MHPSS Activities:

  • Provide psychosocial support to  people in the community in psychosocial / psychological distress through individual and / or group sessions
  • Refer people presenting symptoms of severe psychological distress, mental disorders and substance use to specialised services following the internal procedures
  • Follow up on internal and external referrals (specialised services, basic services, etc.)
  • Work in collaboration with other departments’ and provide guidance to them on PSS.
  • Ensure the content of the session remains confidential and that ethical practices areobserved in a culturally appropriated way, especially with respect to gender sensitivities.
  • Perform community awareness on symptoms of mild to moderate psychological / psychosocial distress

Communication and Reporting:

  • Fill in the MHPSS data collection tools and file them in a secured manner
  • Fill in all reporting and data collection forms on a daily basis

Supervision of Pyschosocial Awareness Volunteers:

  • Manage the PAVs and ensure that they are compliant with the procedures
  • Supervise the work of the PAVs by conducting regular field visits during awareness sessions and recreational activities
  • With the support of the MHPSS PM, provide trainings to PAV on PFA, communication skills, self-care and other PSS related topics
  • Participates in the recruitment process of PAV
  • Follow-up with finance to ensure PAVs’ monthly incentives are paid on time
  • Ensures that awareness sessions are appropriately conducted following the MHPSS guidelines
  • With the support of the MHPSS PM, manage problems or difficulties  encountered by PAV during community awareness session
  • Ensures proper data collation of individuals reached during door to door / community awareness sessions

Logistics and Administrations:

  • Supports the logistical and administrative organization, planning, and preparation as directed by thePM
  • Ensures the safety and proper use of materials and tools related to MHPSS activities during on-site works

Mandatory Requirements

Job Title: Midwife

General objective

  • Under the direct supervision of the SRH or OPD supervisor, the Midwife provides MNCH/ SRH care services, including ANC, PNC, Basic Emergency Obstetric, and Neonatal Care, and family planning, etc.
  • S/he follows PUI obstetrical and Sexual Reproductive Health protocols and universal standards to ensure quality and continuity of care.

Responsibilities and Tasks
Patients Care:

  • Prepare all the materials and ensure that everything is ready before starting the activities.
  • Perform antenatal consultations including screening tests according to the protocols, detect and mention all the risk factors.
  • Conduct delivery according to the protocols, precautions, hygiene standards.
  • Perform postnatal consultations during the 6 weeks following the delivery, give appropriate treatment and refers to secondary care when needed.
  • Perform family planning consultations and counseling according to protocol.
  • Give systematic prophylactic treatments to pregnant women.
  • Verify the tetanus vaccination of each pregnant woman.
  • Manage SRH emergency cases with the assistance of the SRH supervisor according to PUI protocols and regulations.

  • Request for a 2nd evaluation of the patient when needed.

Management of an Efficient Referral System:

  • Manage the emergency and electives referral cases according to the referral protocol by facilitating the logistics including transportation means, an appointment with specialists, laboratory tests, etc. in collaboration with SRH supervisor.
  • Follow up the referred cases, and check the outcome.
  • Ensuring appropriate follow-up care has been given and taking appropriate action if further care is needed.
  • Identify and refer patients who need mental health consultation.

Job Title: Psychosocial (PSS) Deputy Project Manager

Location: Maiduguri, Borno

General Objective 

  • Under the technical supervision of the PSS Deputy Coordinator and direct supervision of Protection Project Manager, the Deputy PSS Project Manager will support the PSS team in implementing activities in Maiduguri. Additionally, he/she will manage data records of activities, and work on capacity building of staff under his / her supervision.

Responsibilities and Tasks
Support Supervision and Team Management:

  • Support in the good implementation and monitoring of the PSS project in collaboration with the Protection Project Manager and Deputy PSS Coordinator
  • Ensure that agreed activities and procedures are regularly and timely performed by PSS Supervisor, Psychosocial Workers (PSW) and Psychosocial Awareness Volunteers (PAV)
  • Participate actively in the supervision of PSS activities and reports to the Protection Manager
  • Supervise monthly planning, staff schedules, and annual leave and attendance sheets in accordance with HR procedures
  • Manage the recruitment of new staff in collaboration with Protection Project Manager
  • Support drawing up Job Descriptions for PSSSupervisor and PSWs as needed, in collaboration with the Protection Project Manager
  • Participate in the regular performance evaluation of PSS team
  • Assess training needs, develop training plans, facilitate and perform training and follow up the impact aftertraining
  • Ensure that the team is following MHPSS intervention framework and applying it in the routine implementation of PSS activities
  • Collaborate with other departments (Health, Nutrition, Food Security and Livelihood) as needed to ensure smooth implementation and integration of services
  • Conduct routine project needs assessments (at PHCC and safe spaces) and program reviews to ensure successful implementation
  • Follow up the performance indicators defined, report on progress to his/her immediate supervisor, indicate difficulties encountered in project implementation, and propose improvements or reorganization.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Monitor the routine implementation of PSS activities on field level and report accordingly
  • Supervise data collection and ensure that the data collected weekly on PSS activities are entered correctly on the Kobo
  • Ensure accurate and qualitative compilation of monthly reports and PMTs
  • Ensure archiving of documents, tools and training materials in the context of project and ensure availability of verification sources mentioned in the project proposal documents
  • Follow up referred cases with partner organizations or MoH
  • Participate in the budget follow-ups with the Protection Project Manager and make sure budget lines are spent properly

Internal and External Representation:

  • When delegated by the Protection Project Manager and/or Deputy MHPSS Coordinator, facilitate to build a sound, good and close relation with parties involved in the implementation of PSS activities at local level: clusters, NGOs, communities
  • Work with partner agencies in the provision and referral of services

Logistics and Administrative Support:

  • Ensure proper needs analysis from the project
  • Ensure, in coordination with the logistics department, appropriate storage of PSS equipment when necessary
  • Communicate to the Logistics Manager on a weekly basis the needs related to vehicles and equipment for the implementation of PSS project
  • Ensure that HR documents (attendance sheet, leave request, etc.) are communicated to the HR Manager on time, with validation of Protection Project Manager
  • Follow relevant procurement processes to ensure project logistical needs are met
