Bridge International Academies is the world’s largest and
fastest-growing chain of primary and pre-primary schools with more than
400 academies and 100,000 pupils in Kenya and Uganda.
We democratize the
right to succeed by giving families living in poverty access to the
high-quality education that will allow their children to live a very
different life. We leverage experts, data, and technology in order to
standardize and scale every aspect of quality education delivery, from
how and where academies are built to how teachers are selected and
trained, and how lessons are delivered and monitored for improvement. We
are vertically integrated, tech-enabled, and on our way to
profitability. Bridge expects to continue rapid expansion in East
Africa, and has just launched operations in Nigeria in September 2015,
with India to follow in 2016.
Job Title: Global Curriculum Project Director
About the Role
The curriculum team at Bridge produces over 1000 printed books per year
across 4 markets. The team produces close to 50,000 teacher guides. We
need someone with exceptional project management skills to liaise
between curriculum and production – to ensure that we’re on or under
budget, to ensure that our large team of 100 curriculum writers across 5
countries are happy and productive.
Your primary responsibilities will be ensuring that the creation of
these books goes smoothly from the Curriculum Director’s and from the
Global Production Director’s perspective. Deadlines are communicated
well in advance and negotiated based on needs from both sides.
What you will be accountable for -
Being the “connector” between Curriculum and Production. Leaders from
both departments will see you as the facilitator of on-time, on- or
under-budget product. This includes --
Working with curriculum and production departments to manage “art” and
“composition” budgets. These need to be proposed by CPD and then
approved by executive leadership.
Working with curriculum and production departments to manage
country-specific print budgets. Example – Kenya has a $300 per class
materials budget. The CPD and GPD are jointly accountable for staying
within this budget. This includes working with and educating Curriculum
Directors on the tradeoffs inherent within their work – page counts,
number of books, per pupil vs. bench.
Managing scheduling of curriculum product. Hitting deadlines can “make
or break” the Academic enterprise at Bridge. Careful, frontloaded
scheduling -- that considers the needs of both Curriculum and Production
– is on the CPD.
Collaborate with the Curriculum Quality Director to ensure that
realistic targets are set for improvement within time constraints. This
includes –
Setting out a curriculum maintenance and improvement plan for 2016 with
the CQD that gets approved by executive leadership. This will require
soliciting input from the different content and country Curriculum
Directors.
Managing and responding to country-specific requests around curriculum products.
Manage the curriculum writer “vertical.” This includes –
Managing project associate tasked with recruiting Fellows, and working
with him/her to facilitate the allocation of Fellows to different teams.
Working with country leaders to manage the Fellow recruiting process in
the different markets. This will be particularly relevant in India.
Managing a crucial component of the curriculum writing process: teacher guide management.
A successful scorecard for the CPD in 2016 would include –
Better curriculum as measured by learning gains and by field work.
On budget for production.
On budget for print.
A “state of the art” teacher guide management process.
