For over 38 years the association has focused on meeting three vital needs - water, food and shelter. Currently present in Nigeria since 2016 and is present in North Eastern part of Nigeria. Currently, SI carries out emergency / post - emergency programs in WASH sector in North West region of Nigeria.

Job Title: Hygiene Promoter / Community Mobilization Team Leader

Location: Maiduguri, Borno

Description of the Position

  • The Team Leader will coordinate a team of Hygiene Promoters and Community Mobilizers in order to carry out community mobilization activities, ensuring that Solidarités International’s technical recommendations and procedures are followed.

List of Main Tasks

  • Setting up the activities /control and supervision
  • Plan the weekly activities for his/her team and have them approved by his/her line manager:
    • Plan human resources needs (daily workers, workers...)
    • Plan tool and material needs (request from stock)
    • Anticipate administrative issues (requests in advance)
    • Anticipate logistics issues (transport, communication means...)
  • Organize and carry out, with his/her team, tasks assigned by his/her line manager
  • Facilitate creative workshops and the creation of new HP tools adapted to the context (in consultation with his/her line manager)
  • Supervise and monitor each stage of activity. Ensure that standards and instructions given by his/her line manager, as well as Solidarités procedures, are followed
  • Respect schedules and deadlines agreed upon with his/her line manager
  • Report back any problems and constraints encountered during the course of the activities and suggest operational solutions

Logistics and Administration:

  • When recruiting daily workers, follow procedures and directives outlined by his/her line manager and the administrative service
  • Train his/her team members to use and maintain the available tools correctly
  • Track usage with monitoring tools provided
  • Enforce safety procedures
  • Ensure that safety procedures are followed by members of his/her team
  • Monitor the quality and quantity of material delivered to working sites
  • Ensure the receipt and storage of material and equipment necessary for his/her work to be carried out on site

Reporting / Communication:

  • Take part in weekly program meetings and clusters on request
  • Keep his/her monitoring tools and files archived in the Solidarités office, accessible to his/her line manager
  • Draw up and submit a weekly task report (which should include progress made by the team) to his/her line manager
  • Ensure that of all beneficiary justification documents are properly collected, organised and passed on to his/her line manager.
  • Take part in the drafting of the monthly program pack
  • Establish and maintain good relations with local participants and communities (populations) in the operational fields
  • Listen to the populations and local participants in the field and report to his/her line manager any non-technical or safety-related issues which could affect the activities or safety of Solidarités International teams

Profile

  • Minimum of a B.Sc. or HND in Social Sciences
  • 2-3 years’ experience in humanitarian activity with minimum 18 months in an emergency project.
  • He/she is in charge to create awareness of the Solidarités International programs throughout targeted communities.
  • The community mobilizer could be asked to take part to training or distribution activities
  • He/she participates in monitoring the implemented activities and assessing new needs
  • He/she participates in the collection of data, mapping and general information on communities and in the identification of the beneficiaries within the communities
  • Experience to lead various capacity building initiatives with strong facilitation skil
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Must be fluent in one of the local language (Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa)

Job Title: Hygiene Promoter

Location: Maiduguri, Borno

Description of the Position

  • Under the direct supervision of the Hygiene Promotion Team Leader, the Hygiene Promoter is in charge of setting up all activities related to improving hygiene good practices including needs assessments, activities’ implementation and monitoring and project evaluation.
  • The hygiene promoter is responsible for realization of hygiene promotion campaigns, surveys, cleaning campaigns, distribution of hygiene kits
  • He/She maintains good coordination with the WatSan team, and community mobilizers in order to ensure the quality of the implemented activities and provide technical support for all hygiene related issues
  • He/she ensures that SI’s technical recommendations and procedures are followed.

List of Main Tasks
Evaluate hygiene risk:

  • Through field visit, observation and survey the Hygiene Promoter should be able to identify and evaluate the hygiene risk among the community.
  • The hygiene promoter will assess situation and practices on water management and sanitation, (drinking water source, collection, transport and storage, water treatment, food management, waste management and sanitation)

Sensitization:

  • Under the responsibility of the team lead, participate in the logistical and administrative organization, planning and preparation of field operations:
    • Identify local resources capable of helping in the preparation and accomplishment of the activities of Solidarités International
    • Remain in touch with the population and local authorities to understand needs, complaints, and major events that may have an impact on the activities of Solidarités International.
    • Analyze the humanitarian situation taking into account the production problems / Do No Harm policy for the population
  • Apply safety & security procedures in field operations
  • Present the population and local authorities with the nature of field operations
  • Conduct sensitization activities with beneficiaries:
  • Using Solidarités resources
  • Sending messages determined by the Solidarités International official in charge of operations
  • Adapting methods to the different populations
  • Taking into account the production problems / Do No Harm policy for the population
  • Helping identify and train key persons regarding the sensitization themes
  • Participate in the creation and monitoring of committees, and the training of its members
  • Monitor and distribute sensitization activity reports

Distribution:

  • Organize and participate in distribution activities
  • Participate in the beneficiary identification process
  • Ensure the completion and filing of distribution justification documents.

Reporting / Communication:

  • Keep files and monitoring archived at the Solidarités offices accessible to the team leader
  • Under the supervision of the team lead, redact activity reports
  • Collect and transmit to the team lead or program in-charge statistics related to the sensitization and training activities
  • Participate in seminars and training workshops useful to the accomplishment of sensitization activities and the attainment of project objectives
  • Report to team lead on the evolution of activities and specific tasks assigned, problems encountered, quality of relations with beneficiaries and the involvement of communities
  • Remain in touch with the population and local authorities to understand needs, complaints, and major events that may have an impact on the activities of Solidarités International, and in terms of operations perceptions

Job Title: WATSAN Officer

Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Employment Type: Full-time

Description of the Position

  • Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager Assistant and indirectly the Project Team Leader and WASH Program Manager, the WatSan Officer will be in charge of setting up all activities related to improving access to water and sanitation including needs assessments, activities’ implementation and monitoring and project evaluation.
  • More precisely, the WatSan foreman will be responsible for rehabilitation or construction of boreholes or other water points, monitoring of water quality, construction of emergency latrines and bathing areas, including purchase of the appropriate material, supervision of contractors’ teams.
  • He will work in good coordination with the WatSan community mobilizer in order to ensure the quality of the implemented activities and will provide technical support for all WatSan related issues. He/she will ensure that SI’s technical recommendations and procedures are followed

List of Main Tasks
Set-up and operational monitoring:

  • Provide technical input on activity design adapted to the context
  • Under the supervision of the team leader and Program Manager Assistant, take part in logistical and administrative organization and the planning and preparation of job sites
  • Ensure the construction and/or the maintenance of construction work using Solidarités International tools (in particular):
    • Take part in the identification of sites where work is to be carried out
    • Recruit and train the workforce and daily workers
    • Allocate the on-site workforce according to instructions given by the team leader
    • Carry out work according to technical guidelines and estimates
    • Respect deadlines established with his/her team leader or project manager
  • Supervise operational teams, contractors and communities, and ensure the best use of available resources
  • Support the Community Mobilisers in organizing, planning and supervising community participation for WatSan activities
  • Anticipate any problems associated with the management of his/her activity and propose solutions to avoid them
  • Manage the supply of worksite materials by collaborating with the logistics department
  • Report to the project manager and/or team leader on the state of decentralized stock (‘field’ stock) on his/her sites.

  • Take part in the drafting of project progress reports under the supervision of his/her team leader
  • Take part in seminars and workshops related to the carrying-out of activities and to project objectives

Job Title: Cholera Taskforce Lead

Location: Gusau, Zamfara
Employment Type: Full Time

Description of the Position

  • The position holder will be responsible for supporting sector coordination of WASH actors in North-East Nigeria in collaboration with the Borno State WASH sector coordinator
  • The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and facilitate the processes that will ensure a well-coordinated, strategic, adequate, coherent, and effective cholera response by WASH actors in Borno
  • The position might also mobilize partners from Borno State in order to address gaps in cholera response in neighboring Adamawa and Yobe States.
  • The position-holder will be SI staff and will report directly to SI WASH Coordinator. However, the position holder will be accountable to WASH partners in Borno State and the WASH Sector. The position-holder will not be directly involved in the delivery of SI projects.

List of Tasks and Responsibilities

  • The Cholera Taskforce Lead will work impartially, serving the needs of all members of the WASH Sector and should work closely with the Borno State WASH Sector Coordinator, as appropriate.

He/She will be responsible for:

  • Establishment and maintenance of appropriate humanitarian coordination mechanisms: organisation of coordination meetings at Maiduguri level – covering updates on Borno, Adawama and Yobe (BAY) States and any other state as per SI need/decision;
  • Ensuring the application of appropriate standards: development and/or sharing of standard operating procedures to improve the quality and harmonisation of the interventions of the partners;
  • In cooperation with WaSH and Health partners, identify cholera transmission mechanisms and promote rationale WaSH prevention programs: identify cholera sources, transmission routes and trends together with WaSH conditions and propose a data-based geo-referred long-term response to WaSH partners;
  • Undertaking the planning and strategy development: development and/or sharing of emergency preparedness and contingency plan for integrated cholera response in consultation with stakeholders;
  • In cooperation with WasH and Health partners, put in place an early warning system: identify, upgrade, formalise and make functional and efficient already existing institutional and communitarian warning mechanisms;
  • Coordinating cholera response and partners to fill gaps in response: consolidation, analysis and regular update of partner’s data to provide a quantitative gap analysis including obstacles and duplications and thus improve response planning;
  • Planning and implementing SI’s Cholera Response in BAY (Borno, Adamawa, Yobe) states and providing technical guidance to emergency teams in consultation with DCD and technical coordinator.
  • Ensuring adapted information management monitoring in collaboration with the WASH Sector to ensure proper reporting and information sharing as required;
  • Ensuring needs assessment and analysis: support the organisation of cholera assessments (joint if relevant);
  • Actively contributing to Inter-Sector coordination: consultation and sharing of information with other coordinating bodies (health Sector, the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), clusters, ICC, OCHA, HC and HCT) and with relevant government departments, with a particular focus on strengthening inter-cluster and decentralised coordination-prioritisation based on analysis of interventions;
  • Ensuring adapted reporting: weekly or daily (during cholera outbreak) presentation to the EOC and Health Sector of WASH cholera response data as well as provision of the bi-monthly bulletin to UNICEF and to WASH Sector partners about the cholera situation, response and gaps in Borno State;
  • Undertaking training and capacity building: capacity building of partners through refresher training (national and international NGOs, particularly at LGA level);
  • Ensuring advocacy on behalf of all WASH Sector partners: Implementation of advocacy activities to promote and defend partners’ interests

Profile

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health background with minimum 3 years of experience of project implementation in WASH humanitarian response;
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in cholera response required;
  • Previous experience in participating in/leading different coordination bodies/mechanisms required;
  • Previous experience as WASH Sector co-lead is a plus;
  • Excellent analytical skills, writing and speaking
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Wash technical activities
  • Excellent knowledge of MS office applications and database management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Capacity to work with diverse stakeholders to develop consensus;

Job Title: Program Manager

Location: Gusau - Zamfara

Description of the Position

  • The program manager WASH is responsible for implementing and achieving the objectives defined in the operation proposals.
  • (S)he is responsible for overseeing operational teams assigned to the program.
  • (S)he guarantees the good performance and the quality of the program(s) WASH implemented, and, where appropriate, proposes adjustments or developments to ensure relevance.

List of Main Tasks
Diagnosis and project design:

  • Participate in the preparation and implementation of diagnostics
  • Participate in the design and the financial dimension of the human and logistical programs to implement
  • Prepare the appendixes and technical chapters (of logical framework) of operation proposals
  • Implement activities in compliance with the annual operational strategy, Solidarity International technical requirements, and donor criteria

Implementation and operational monitoring:

  • Plan and oversee the implementation of program WASH that (s)he is responsible for, both on-time and within the set technical specifications
  • Plan the activity or activities WASH with the support Departments (administrative, logistics), according to objectives
  • Propose and develop indicators for monitoring program activities WASH and context

  • With the administrative department, define the prerequisites for the WASH vacant positions and, if necessary, adapt the referent job profile.

  • Maintain a local operational communication network and positive relations with the local/governmental authorities, donor representatives, UN and other international agencies in cooperation with the Program Manager and Program Coordinator
  • Assure Solidarités International’s representation in the meetings or forums concerning the program in his/her place of employment…activity…
  • Represent SI on request and/or delegation
  • Respond to the requirements of Headquarters concerning specific needs
  • Write the administrative documents to be signed (MOU, handover…) jointly with governmental authorities, communities or partners

Profile

  • Resident of Zamfara State (position not opened to delocalization)
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as Program Manager or in a similar role
  • BSc degree in Engineering or similar background
  • Excellent knowledge of word processing tools and spreadsheets (MS Office Word, Excel etc.)
  • Familiarity with electronic databases
  • Ability to deliver high quality outputs in a timely manner
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, Hausa and Fulani, ability to read and write
  • A good listener, a good communicator, ability to prioritize and work with little supervision, team player, excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good understanding of north west humanitarian context
