The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.

Overview

Duties

  • Basic Function of the Position – The incumbent is assigned to the Facilities Maintenance Section and is directly supervised by the Building Engineer for all assigned duties.
  • Job holder carries out preventive maintenance, repair, installation, modification, trouble-shooting, overhaul, testing adjustment and calibration of various diesel generators, automatic transfer switches, fuel tanks, batteries and chargers, transformers and associated mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Incumbent receives written or verbal requests for maintenance services and ascertains all of the information to determine whether the work is of a routine or emergency nature.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Education Requirements:

  • Completion of Secondary School or Technical Training College and three (3) years of journey man knowledge in maintenance and repair of standby generator and/or uninterrupted power supply systems is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in generator trouble-shooting, repairing and installation is required. 

Job Knowledge:

  • Must possess job knowledge to include general computer literacy. Knowledge of normal, diesel engines, electrical alternators, complete preventive maintenance procedures is required.

Evaluations:

  • This may be tested. Please specify your level of proficiency in the language listed.
  • Must hold a valid Nigerian driver's license.
  • All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.

Language:

  • Good working knowledge in speaking/reading/writing of English is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to use measurement tools needed to lay out and cut shaped, threaded, and joined materials is required.
  • Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, or parts with a maximum weight of 25 kg as well as climb ladders to reach equipment platforms and roofs of buildings to access control panels is required.
  • Ability to operate forklifts for lifting or moving of generators, diesel tanks and other heavy items related to the job is required.

Marketing Statement:

Salary

  • NGN 5,800,916 annually.
  • USD $34,021 annually.

Agency Benefits:

  • Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Lagos, Nigeria may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
  • For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
  • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
