Protection and Gender Assistant at Greater Impact Initiative for Child Support (GIMPACS)


Greater Impact Initiative for Child Support (GIMPACS) is a woman–led, youth-led, and non-governmental organization established in 2023 and formally incorporated in 2024 with the focus on providing healthcare and hygiene services to marginalized children, women, and persons living with disability.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: Protection and Gender Assistant

Locations: Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe

Job Description

  • The Protection & Gender Assistant supports the implementation of protection and gender-related activities within the organization’s programs.
  • This role ensures that vulnerable individuals—especially women, children, and marginalized groups—receive timely support, referrals, and appropriate services. The role also promotes gender equality, safe programming, and community engagement.

Protection Case Management & Support:

  • Assist in identifying individuals at risk and support referral pathways to appropriate services.
  • Conduct follow-up visits for protection cases under the guidance of the Protection Officer.
  • Maintain confidential, accurate, and up-to-date documentation of protection cases.
  • Support the implementation of psychosocial support (PSS) activities for vulnerable groups.

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention & Response:

  • Assist in organizing GBV awareness sessions in communities and safe spaces.
  • Support survivors by providing basic information, referrals, and confidential guidance.
  • Help maintain a safe and confidential environment following survivor-centered principles.
  • Participate in community outreach that challenges harmful gender norms and promotes gender equality.

Data Collection, Reporting & Documentation:

  • Conduct field-level data collection using digital tools or paper forms.
  • Support the preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
  • Document success stories, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow data protection standards.

Coordination & Networking:

  • Support coordination with community leaders, women’s groups, local authorities, and service providers.
  • Participate in internal protection and gender meetings.
  • Assist in mapping existing services and updating referral pathways.

Community Engagement & Awareness:

  • Facilitate community meetings, focus group discussions (FGDs), and sensitization activities on protection risks, gender norms, safeguarding, and rights.
  • Identify and support community-based protection structures or committees.
  • Assist in gathering community feedback and feeding into MEAL systems.

Safe Programming & Protection Mainstreaming:

  • Support other departments to integrate protection and gender considerations across activities.
  • Assist in conducting protection risk assessments and monitoring protection trends in communities.
  • Participate in safety audits and ensure inclusion of vulnerable groups (women, girls, PLWD, elderly).

Required Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Law, or related field.
  • Good communication, facilitation, and community mobilization skills.
  • Fluency in English; local language skills are an added advantage.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations in NGO or community settings (protection, GBV, or safeguarding is an advantage).
  • Understanding of humanitarian principles, protection principles, gender equality, and GBV.

  • Commitment to safeguarding, PSEA, and gender equality.
