The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.

Job Title: Telephone Technician - All Interested Candidates

Duties

  • Basic Function of the Position - The incumbent is responsible for the operations, installation and maintenance of post telephone, PBX systems and other telecommunication equipment.
  • Assist Switchboard Operators in time of staff gap.
  • S/he also performs liaison duties with local telephone company technicians.
  • The incumbent will perform other duties assigned by his/her direct supervisor, the Telecommunication Supervisor.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements

Experience:  

  • Two (2) years previous experience working on Nortel/Avaya PBX System is required.

Job Knowledge:  

  • Must know how telecommunication voice and data signaling enters the building: how wiring is arranged on a punch down block; distribution of wiring throughout the building; ability to test and correct faulty circuits. Must know IP Addressing. Knowledgeable with telecommunication test equipment: voltmeter, cable analyzer is required.

Education Requirements:

  • Completion of Secondary School or received high school diploma is required.
  • Trade Test / City and Guide Certificates in electronics or computer or telecommunications is required.

Evaluations:

  • This may be tested. Please specify your level of proficiency in the language listed.

Language:  

  • Level III (Good working knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing in English in required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to use a personal computer and be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, Cisco IOS, Phone Master, IP Office Manager, Unified Communication Manager. 
  • Must have fundamental voice/data signaling skills. Must be able to work as a team member, and work in difficult, sometimes dirty and cramped conditions.  Must be able to lift 25kg and must possess a valid Nigeria driver's license.

Agency Benefits:

  • Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Lagos, Nigeria may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
  • For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
  • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
