Technical Brewer Requirements, Skills & Qualifications

The following common skills and qualifications are required of a Technical Brewer:

  • A degree in Brewing and distilling, Chemistry, Chemical engineering, Microbiology, Food science or food technology
  • Advanced scientific knowledge, in chemistry, microbiology, and/or biochemistry.
  • Engineering knowledge is also useful for dealing with machinery and improving production processes.
  • Experience working in a brewery and/or a postgraduate degree or certificate in brewing
  • Managerial, logistics or business qualifications are desirable
  • Strong practical skills and problem solving abilities
  • Excellent leadership capabilities
  • Modern manufacturing practices, principles and techniques
  • Project management knowledge
  • Flexible and able to deal with emergencies
  • A great communicator and manager
  • Capable of innovation
  • Methodical, logical and detail orientated
  • Physically fit
