Action Against Hunger works to save lives by combating hunger and diseases that threaten the lives of vulnerable communities, through nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy. We are recruiting to fill the position below:     Job Title: Cash Assistant Location: Maiduguri, Borno Starting date: As Soon As Possible Direct Line Manager: Cash Officer Summary

  • The Cash Assistant will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the Cash and Voucher intervention aimed at improving the Food and Nutrition security of Vulnerable Populations in in MMC and Jere LGAs of Borno State, North-Eastern Nigeria at the community level under the supervision of the Cash Officer.
Objective 1
  • Undertake Cash and Voucher interventions at LGA level under the direction of the Cash Officer
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate community sensitization, meetings and training during related  to cash activities;
  • Support in the implementation of capacity building training for the target beneficiaries at the community level.
  • Directly implement in the field the program activities in close collaboration with the Cash officer.
  • Implement detailed work plan for FSL team in MMC and Jere LGA.
  • Work with community volunteers and other stakeholders to ensure the identification and selection of the most vulnerable IDPs and host communities and provide information to ensure accountability, fairness and transparency during implementation of activities.
  • Work closely with community structures to follow up on implementation of unconditional cash transfers planned  activities with the support from the Cash Officer;
Objective 2
  • Collect information and data on food security at LGA level through surveys, assessments and regular post distribution monitoring of beneficiary households.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Collect information to ensure that the surveillance of the unconditional cash transfers situation in the area of implementation of the program is achieving the expected result, when required.
  • Participate in the registration and distribution of beneficiary Smart cards.
  • Support the preparation of documentation required for the implementation of field activities.
  • Support the M&E team in analysis of beneficiary data collection.
Objective 3
  • Mobilization and awareness raising about the organization, program objectives and activities to local authorities and the population, and act as a link between the Organization and the beneficiaries (at LGA level)
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Implement sensitization activities for targeted communities about Cash Transfer and strengthening livelihood restoration activities with support from relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the LGA Supervisor in ensuring that targeting of beneficiaries to receive cash transfers is carried out in a transparent way and with active participation of women and minority members of communities.
  • Support the Cash officer to ensure that beneficiaries’ access to the provider guarantees protection and gender sensitivity in the field.
  • Support in the verification of the beneficiaries to ensure the identification and selection of the most vulnerable population is verified before Cash transfer is made.
Internal & External Relationship Internal:
  • Cash Officer: Direct line supervisor.
  • FSL Deputy Program Manager: Technical hierarchical relationship- exchange of information, collaboration, coordination.
External:
  • Local governmental and non-governmental partners: exchange of information, coordination, training, supervision, influence on choice of technical options.
Position Requirement
  • Diploma in Food security and livelihoods related courses e.g. Economics, Agricultural Economics, Business management Development, Agriculture Studies.
Skills & Experience Essential:
  • Professional, good organizational capacity, good human relationships, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and, culturally sensitive.
  • Fluency in Hausa, Kanuri and English.
  • Commitment to Action Against Hunger mission, values and policy
  • Good team spirit.
  • 1 year relevant work experience.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
Preferred:
  • Previous experience with FSL, Cash programming.
  • Previous experience with Action Against Hunger.
  • Previous humanitarian programming experience.
  • Good knowledge of the intervention area/s and local economy.
