We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: Aviation Safety Officer

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Full time

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with NCAA and ICAO aviation safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company's safety management system (SMS) in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate safety training and awareness programs for employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitoring how the just culture policy is applied, and reporting to the Accountable Executive when issues are identified.
  • Ensuring that the reporting system is effective and that occurrences have been timely and properly analyzed; in particular, ensuring that identified root cause(s) of incidents, accidents, and failures within the system are relevant and mitigated accordingly to prevent recurrence.
  • Encouraging operational departments and/or individuals to take ownership of safety issues and risks.
  • Monitor and analyze safety data, trends, and performance indicators to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance safety performance.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, industry organizations, and other stakeholders to stay updated on relevant safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Supporting operational departments and managers on the use of Safety Management processes (e.g., assisting operational personnel in conducting risk assessments according to a common risk assessment methodology and assigning effective, operationally relevant controls).
  • Coaching and training staff in the use of Safety Management tools and methodologies as described in the SMS manual (or equivalent).
  • Conduct safety assessments, audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and assess the effectiveness of existing safety measures.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for regulatory submissions, audits, and inspections.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including operations, maintenance, and training, to ensure that safety requirements are integrated into all aspects of the company's operations.
  • Fostering a positive safety culture throughout the organization; includes promoting an open reporting culture and ensuring that punitive actions are not taken against individuals making voluntary or mandatory safety reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical Engineering, Safety Management, or a related field.
  • M.Sc./MBA Degree is an added advantage.
  • Professional certification in aviation safety management (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, IS-BAO) is required.
