Petromech is a Kaduna-based company in Nigeria specializing in waste management, with a primary focus on producing base oils and engine oils from used lubricants. The company also operates a 2,500 m² workshop equipped to handle a wide range of mechanical maintenance, repair, and fabrication services.

Job Title: Company Accountant

Job Description

  • We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to ensure the financial health and compliance of our organization.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of financial principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The Accountant will play a key role in managing financial records, preparing financial statements, and assisting in the budgeting and forecasting process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and other financial transactions.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, to provide insights into the company's financial performance.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets and financial forecasts, identifying areas of concern or opportunity.
  • Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations and assist with tax preparation and filing.
  • Responsible for the management of all Nigeria direct and indirect tax matters, including ensuring tax returns are accurately prepared and filed on time, paid as at when due, and tax audits are managed effectively.
  • Management of local tax forecast and local tax projects as part of the financial planning cycle.
  • Responsible for preparation and filing of Corporate income tax returns which are accurately prepared and filed on a timely basis.
  • Develop and prepare tax correspondence and documentation to support the Nigeria entities’ tax compliance checks / reviews
  • Auditing: Coordinate and support external audits, as well as implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and financial data.
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis and provide recommendations for cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and other financial improvements.
  • Vendor Management: Manage vendor relationships, oversee invoice processing, and ensure timely payment to vendors.
  • Month-End and Year-End Close: Execute month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations and accruals.
  • Financial Software: Utilize financial software and tools to streamline financial processes and reporting.
  • Compliance: Stay up-to-date with accounting standards and regulations, ensuring adherence to best practices.

Role Specific Knowledge and Experience
The successful candidate will need to possess the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 10 years progressive experience in middle management tax finance roles, including tax reporting, tax compliance, tax accounting in a in a multi-jurisdiction / international environment.
  • Experience in dealing with Tax Authorities.
  • In depth experience and technical knowledge of tax accounting and disclosures for accounting purposes, including deferred tax, prior year adjustments and multiple years, etc.
  • Experience in managing and reconciling intercompany transactions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA
  • Successfully completed bachelor’s degree plus professional qualification (ACA / ACCA, and CITN).
