Job Title: Compliance Officer

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Description

  • The Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that the organisation operates in full adherence to all regulatory, contractual, ethical, and internal policy requirements.
  • This role oversees compliance across technical consulting projects in engineering, infrastructure, energy, and related sectors.
  • The officer will work closely with project directors, engineers, finance, HR, and external stakeholders to develop and sustain a robust compliance culture that protects the firm’s integrity and enhances client trust.

Key Responsibilities
Regulatory & Statutory Compliance:

  • Monitor relevant local, state, and federal regulations affecting engineering/technical consulting operations.
  • Ensure all licenses, permits, certifications, and statutory filings are up to date.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., COREN, BPP, NSITF, ITF, FIRS, State ministries/agencies).
  • Track compliance requirements for multi-state and multi-sector projects.

Project Compliance Oversight:

  • Review project documentation, contracts, and deliverables for compliance with client, donor, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure proper documentation for bid submissions, vendor selection, project reporting, and audit trails.
  • Monitor adherence to engineering standards, quality protocols, and HSE guidelines.

Compliance Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Conduct internal audits and prepare compliance status reports for management.
  • Maintain incident registers, non-compliance logs, and resolution trackers.
  • Prepare reports for clients, regulators, and executive management as required.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work with legal counsel on contracts, disputes, and regulatory interpretations.
  • Engage clients, partners, donors, and vendors to ensure transparency and compliance alignment.
  • Support certification initiatives such as ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 45001 (HSE), and ISO 37001 (Anti-Bribery).

Additional responsibility/requirement:

  • The Compliance Officer ensures full regulatory, technical, and ethical compliance across all phases of a Power Sector Metering Project, working with supervisory teams related to engineering, installation, and commissioning teams to maintain project integrity and adherence to NERC and SGDL standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with NERC regulations, SGDL guidelines, and PMI project technical specifications.
  • Monitor adherence to data privacy and cybersecurity protocols.
  • Lead internal audits, maintain risk registers, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Enforce ethical standards and support whistleblowing processes.
  • Prepare compliance reports for SGDL.
  • Ensure HSE adherence.
  • Conduct field audits on installation teams and ensure accurate documentation is maintained.
  • Oversee compliant procurement for non-project related purchases.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Accounting, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Professional certification in compliance, auditing, or risk (e.g. ICAN, ACCA, CFE, CCEP, CFT(Counter Terrorism Financing), AML(Anti-Money Laundering, ISO Lead Auditor) is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with Pre-paid / Post-paid Billing
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian regulatory frameworks and industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and investigative skills.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professional judgment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and compliance tools/software.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in compliance, audit, or risk management ideally within power sector, engineering, construction, consulting, or technical projects.
  • Knowledge of NERC/NEMSA regulations and DISCO metering processes.

Salary
N800,000 - N1,000,000 monthly.
