Job Title: Dialysis Nurse

Location: Awka, Anambra

Job Description

  • We are seeking a competent, compassionate, and experienced Dialysis Nurse to join our renal care team at our Awka facility.
  • We are dedicated to providing life-sustaining hemodialysis services with the highest standards of patient safety, infection control, and personalized care.
  • We are looking for a dedicated nurse who is passionate about supporting patients with chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease through expert dialysis care.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, operate, and monitor hemodialysis machines and related equipment during dialysis sessions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of treatment parameters, patient responses, and any adverse events in the electronic health record.
  • Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention protocols, water quality standards, and dialysis unit safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with nephrologists, dietitians, social workers, and other healthcare team members to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection control audits, and continuous education in renal nursing.
  • Assess patients before, during, and after dialysis treatment, including vital signs, vascular access condition, weight, and overall clinical status.
  • Administer prescribed medications, anticoagulants, and fluids as per physician orders during dialysis.
  • Cannulate and decannulate arteriovenous fistulas, grafts, and central venous catheters using aseptic techniques.
  • Monitor for and promptly respond to dialysis-related complications such as hypotension, cramps, clotting, air embolism, or dialyzer reactions.
  • Educate patients and families on renal disease management, dialysis procedures, dietary restrictions, fluid control, and vascular access care.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
  • Valid practicing license and good standing with NMCN.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical experience as a Dialysis Nurse in a recognized hemodialysis unit.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; ACLS is an added advantage.
  • Experience with Fresenius, Baxter, or similar dialysis machines is desirable.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Strong clinical knowledge of hemodialysis principles, renal physiology, and common complications in dialysis patients.
  • Commitment to infection control, patient safety, and ethical nursing practice.
  • Excellent venipuncture and vascular access management skills with a focus on patient comfort and safety.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond quickly in emergency situations during dialysis.
  • High level of attention to detail, accuracy in monitoring, and documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and manage multiple patients simultaneously.
