Job Title: Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Job type: Full-time

Work Role & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing electrical & instrumentation engineering expertise to the departmental lead to ensure that projects & services deliver the required benefits.
  • Lead operational activities to troubleshoot, inspect, test, maintain, repair, clean, and calibrate electrical and instrumentation equipment including plant communications, equipment, programmable controllers, distributive control systems, generator excitation equipment, battery chargers, and semiconductor devices. Also, control devices such as switches, photo eyes, proximity sensors, pushbuttons, contactors, motor starters, transmitters, etc.
  • Perform, and coordinate installation & repairs, calibration such as field instruments - gauges, transmitters, and sensors.
  • Use of a wide range of test equipment, including recorders, computers, control and tuning modules, PC-based software analyzer programs, oscilloscopes, data analyzers, logistic test equipment, analog and digital multi-meters, meggers, and other test equipment, while performing tests to identify problems and to maintain and calibrate equipment to performance standards.
  • Site visit to inspect client electrical & instrumentation equipment & tools, line instrument problems, and create readable and accurate reports with observations, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Prepare, review technical quotes, and recommend selecting suitable electrical equipment and instrumentation, cables, and other system components based on process/project requirements to assist the procurement/commercial team.
  • Perform electrical & instrumentation and material selection calculations where required.
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the Lead Engineer.
  • Identify and provide work elements for cost planning, estimating, controlling, and forecasting.
  • Assist the Lead Engineer in ensuring that required levels of profit and sales targets are achieved by the department.
  • Collaborate effectively with the outdoor sales team to provide sales support for the business unit, company & business representation.
  • Takes responsibility for assigned tenders, dealing with all commercial & estimating activities, technical questionnaires associated with tender requirements, and all associated sub-contract and supplier requirements from tender enquiry to contract award and execution.
  • To provide technical guidance and backup to both clients and E&I technicians.
  • Provide work methodology, materials, technical proposals, and execution plans.
  • Provide planning, organizing, tracking, and adjusting projects with multiple phases involving Engineering and other departments.
  • Draft and interpret client specifications, international standards, plans, drawings, and designs applicable.
  • Developing and maintaining work documentation & project deliverables including QA/QC requirements.
  • Participate in the preparation of business plans, reporting, and work performance monitoring.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering preferably or any relevant Engineering field.
  • Understand electrical power distribution and protection of low and medium voltages (switchgear, transformers, motor control centres, lighting, automation cabinets).
  • Excellent project management and supervision skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical & instrumentation systems.
  • A valid engineering license or certification is an added advantage.
  • Understand automation (plc) applications. 6 years minimum experience – 5 years as an electrical & instrumentation technician or engineer.
