Job Title: Geological Assistant

Location: Sabon Wuse, Niger
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • To assist execute exploration projects within country.
  • The role has responsibility for the execution of all exploration activities assigned on a given project including the generation of quality data, maintaining geological tools and provision of logistical support.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Under the direction of the geologist, implement the earthmoving programme in the field by coordinating the work of the contractors to ensure road access and drill pads are constructed to HSEC and project standards.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in good working condition, ready for use, serviced, operational, tagged in compliance with safety system and prepared for transportation.
  • Assist technical exploration teams with executing geological/geochemical/geophysical surveys, mapping, and sampling, and with community liaison
  • Ensure that purchasing/receiving project requirements are met.
  • Ensure that the acquisition of exploration data is conducted diligently and according to the established data acquisition and management protocols and standards.
  • Adopt operational excellence across all exploration activities, through continuous improvement initiatives and establishment of quality as a way of life.
  • Coordinating and undertaking sampling, sample collection and dispatch under direction from the geologist to meet project objectives.
  • Undertake field level coordination of the project vehicle fleet including transportation of people and equipment by undertaking driving duties and ensure maintenance of vehicles.
  • Coordinate the work of labourers/samplers in the field under direction from geologists ensuring compliance, HSEC and project requirements are met at all times.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Technical Diploma, or Trade certificate or any related qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience working in remote, field-based environment.
  • Valid Driver’s licence with minimum 5 years driving experience.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Certification in 4WD, remote First Aid; and GPS knowledge are advantageous.
