Job Title: Principal Geologist

Location: Sabon Wuse, Niger
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Purpose

  • To generate new regional exploration targets/projects and assess new opportunities for the company.
  • The role has overall accountability for generating new exploration projects according to the exploration strategy mandated by the Group, and assessing the prospectivity/viability of all exploration projects and opportunities presented to the Group for possible partnerships and acquisitions.

Prinicipal Accountabilities

  • Ensure safety, health and wellbeing of employees and equipment to comply with both legal requirements and the company policy.
  • Lead the development of a quality, robust and adequate exploration project pipeline for the company.
  • Generation of new project opportunities from analysing technical data mineral belts reviews.
  • Anchor operational excellence across the exploration teams, through continuous improvement initiatives and establishment of quality as a way of life, especially in the adoption and application of industry’s best, efficient and most cost-effective mineral exploration targeting techniques.
  • Creating global, regional and local mineral prospectivity maps for all key mineral commodities the company has interest in.
  • Compiling and analysing exploration data, to allow informed technical exploration and business development decisions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Professional Geologist designation with a B.Sc Degree (Hons) in Geology and an M.Sc Degree in Exploration Geology, or a related field.
  • Must have at least 10 years of experience in exploration with significant portion of it in Greenfields exploration and field experience of high-value minerals including copper and other base metals; gold, silver, platinum and other precious metals; rare earth and energy minerals.
  • Proficient in GIS (e.g. ArcGIS), borehole plotting (e.g. Geosoft Target), and data management software (e.g. DAP, Datashed, acQuire).
  • Knowledge of different data types and their significance in exploration
  • International/Africa experience in diverse geological environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, oral, written, presentation and authoring of technical reports.
  • Strong geoscientist with in-depth knowledge of geochemical and geophysical exploration methods and their applications in mineral resource targeting.
  • Good knowledge about ore forming systems and exploration models.
