Operations Manager at Street Child


Street Child is a UK charity working to protect vulnerable children and improve access to education in some of the poorest communities in the world.  We work in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nepal and since November 2016, Street Child has been involved in the Humanitarian response in North East Nigeria.

Street Child works in the fields of education, child protection and livelihoods, working to deliver sustainable solutions and create maximum impact. Our work combines counselling, family mediation, business support, school building, teacher training and child protection.  We were a key player in the Ebola crisis and led the global response for children orphaned by Ebola in Sierra Leone and Liberia. We deliver all our programmes through local partners and, since 2008, together we have built/renovated over 200 schools and are now helping to educate over 40,000 young people.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

 

Job Title: Operations Manager

Location: Maiduguri, Borno (with frequent travel within Nigeria as required)
Contract: One year fixed term Contract  with extension potential
Reporting to: Programme Coordinator

Job Description

  • Street Child is seeking an outstanding candidate to bring the highest levels of operational management, control, and compliance to underpin our exciting Nigeria country programme. 
  • You will be joining an agile and fast-growing global organisation, working for children's futures in 20 fragile, conflict and crisis affected countries. 
  • You will work alongside a strong team based in North East Nigeria, with oversight responsibilities for operations, HR, administration and office management, logistics, operational finance and security. 
  • You’ll enjoy bringing order, applying your exceptional organisational skills to deliver multiple priorities concurrently. 
  • You’ll be experienced in development or humanitarian programming, with first class interpersonal and written skills, used to adapting to new and basic contexts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversight of operations, HR, administration, logistics, operational finance and security for Street Child in Nigeria, managing the Maiduguri Office, and other field offices if required, ensuring internal and donor compliance, analyzing and improving organisational processes, quality, productivity and efficiency;
  • A key part of the management team directly managing the Security Officer, Admin & HR Officer and Procurement & Logistics Officer;
  • Organising regular spot-checks internally and with partners, reviewing all processes and ensuring alignment with organization policies;
  • Contributing to capacity building of local partners;
  • Ensuring alignment with government guidelines and legislation and donor requirements.
  • Overseeing HR to attract talent, and setting training standards and hiring procedures;
  • Supporting the Programmes Managers by organizing the coordination of resources, equipment and information for our on-going projects;

Qualifications

  • Educated to Bachelor's Degree level or higher in Operations Management or related field.

Salary and Benefits

  • £25,000 - £33,000 depending on experience (The salary will be commensurate with experience).
