Job Title: Research Analyst

About the Job

  • The ideal candidate will be responsible to serve as a business enabler across the group in providing proactive initiatives, products and services that will position Greenwich Merchant Bank as a leading firm for reliable market insights and investment advice.

Responsibilities

  • Proper coordination of market reports and information for business decision.
  • Deploy market intelligence process.
  • Analyze market information and give Management strategic information on business and product expansion.
  • Equity valuation and recommendations
  • Conduct periodic macroeconomic analyses and implications for the markets.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly competitors market performance.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly industry analyses for management business decision.
  • Build and maintain macroeconomic and market data bank to analysis and decision making.
  • Responsible for producing Macroeconomic and Cross Product Strategy research for internal and external use.
  • Building of financial models to support analysis and investment recommendations for equity and debt instruments with exposure to Pan African Market. This will include preparing yearly economic outlook reports that will include sector and company evaluations for publication.
  • Leading the production of regular reports which monitor developments in the Group’s key markets and products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the HOD.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, and related course.
  • MBA/Masters in Economics or Finance related course is preferred.
  • CFA/ACA/ACCA Certification is an added advantage.
  • Sound experience of at least 2 to 3 years as a Research analyst in the financial services industry.

Skill / Competence:

  • Strong technical economics skills, specifically in relation to quantitative, statistical analysis.
  • Ability to interact with senior officials of international agencies, multilateral, banks, corporates and governments and to present well-researched information on trade-related issues to Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
  • Knowledge of broad analytical techniques, such as statistics, econometrics, as well as mathematical and operations research tools.
  • The ability to analyse and draw reasonable inferences from the analyses of financial and economic data.
  • Highly numerate, with exceptional financial analysis and modeling skills.
  • A proven track record of conceptualizing and executing economic research.
  • A proven track record of managing, supervising and mentoring researcher analysts.
  • A proven track record of conceptualizing, implementing and managing policy-oriented research, action research and/or development projects.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal, written and presentation; ability to effectively communicate strategic research to team members across all levels of the organization
  • Initiative to work independently; aptitude to self-direct and set priorities in a high energy dynamic environment – strong entrepreneurial work ethic.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Organized and efficient, with good ability to define priorities.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills; results driven with ability to creatively problem solve.
  • Capacity for differentiated thinking, and ability to challenge the status quo to drive optimal investment decisions.
  • Ability to gather information from a variety of sources to recommend/make decisions under uncertain circumstances.
  • Ability to present research viewpoints in an articulate and intelligent manner to varying stakeholders across all platforms.

Knowledge:

  • Good Experience in market intelligence.
  • Experience working in and understanding the Nigerian market is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and presenting research papers for use by the financial services industry and an expert understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods, especially econometrics and operations research.
  • Demonstrated experience in development impact analysis.
