Job Title: Microbiology Laboratory Analyst

Key Responsibilities
- Perform microbiological analysis of water, soil, and environmental samples to detect bacterial, fungal, and other microbial contaminants.
- Conduct pathogen detection and microbial load assessments using modern microbiological techniques.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as incubators, autoclaves, and spectrophotometers for microbiological testing.
- Prepare culture media, perform sterilization procedures, and conduct aseptic sampling techniques.
- Identify and classify microorganisms using biochemical, molecular, and microscopic methods.
- Ensure strict adherence to ISO17025 and IPAN regulatory standards for laboratory quality control.

Required Qualifications & Experience

- Strong expertise in pathogen detection, microbial culture, and identification techniques.
- Experience in handling and analyzing samples for water, soils, or environmental microbiology.
- Familiarity with ISO 17025 accreditation and laboratory quality control measures.
- IPAN certification and ISO microbiology training is a plus.
- Proficiency in using microbiological testing equipment and diagnostic kits.
- Knowledge of biosafety and biosecurity standards for laboratory environments.

Job Summary
- The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for overseeing all laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with international standards, optimizing workflows, and maintaining high-quality testing services. The successful candidate must have a strong background in environmental testing, mineral ore analysis, and the use of Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS).
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations & Quality Control:
- Supervise all laboratory activities, including environmental testing, mineral ore analysis, and spectroscopic techniques such as Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS).
- Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 standards and maintain quality assurance protocols.
- Implement and enforce safety and regulatory guidelines in the lab.
- Oversee laboratory staff, ensuring proper training and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Manage sample processing, reporting, and turnaround times efficiently.
Regulatory Compliance & Certifications:
- Ensure the lab maintains and complies with IPAN (Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria) and ISO 17025 accreditation requirements.
- Lead internal and external ISO audits and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Keep up to date with industry regulations and best practices in laboratory management.
Team Leadership & Training:
- Lead and manage a team of laboratory analysts and technicians.

Research & Innovation:

Business & Client Engagement:
- Collaborate with the business development team to attract new clients and maintain relationships with existing ones.
- Assist in proposal writing and tender submissions for laboratory services.

Required Qualifications & Experience
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geochemistry, or a related field.
- ISO 17025 and IPAN certification training (with certification) is mandatory.
- Professional certification in Quality Assurance, Laboratory Management, or Environmental Testing is an added advantage.
Experience & Technical Skills:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in a commercial or research laboratory setting.
- Proven experience in managing a laboratory with expertise in environmental and mineral ore testing.
- Hands-on experience with Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) and other spectroscopic techniques.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 17025 accreditation processes, audits, and compliance.
- Experience in laboratory business development and client engagement is a plus.
- Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and reporting tools.
