Tax Preparer Requirements, Skills & Qualifications

The following common skills and qualifications are required of a Tax Preparer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience.
  • Computer literate.
  • Registered Tax Return Preparer Test completed.
  • Registration with the IRS with a valid PTIN.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must ensure confidentiality.
