Job Title: Associate Professor and Professor (Entrepreneurship)

Location: Yola Adamawa
Department: School of Business and Entrepreneurship
Reports to: Dean, SBE

Summary Of Position

  • The position will be charged with the responsibility of teaching both required and elective entrepreneurship courses in our undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Areas of teaching emphasis include entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship, international development, management, entrepreneurship in large organizations, microfinance, and development entrepreneurship.
  • Develop, market, and run targeted pro-bono and/or fee-for-service workshops for customers, micro-enterprises, and SMEs.In addition S/he must exhibit a strong commitment and a willingness to engage students within and beyond the walls of the traditional classroom in accordance with the university’s policy and procedure.

Detailed Listing Of Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses as specified in the schedule and course contract
  • Evaluate and select texts and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans
  • Provide students an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria
  • Use the established learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students
  • Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered
  • Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions or examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner on student progress
  • Be available for student consultation through office hours or scheduled appointments or by phone or email
  • Maintain records of enrolment and attendance, assessments and grades, submit class rosters and grade sheets by established deadlines
  • Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review course evaluations when available and use feedback to improve course delivery
  • Revise and update course content as needed.
  • Meet with the Dean or Program Chair as needed to discuss all aspects of the course including student progress and curriculum development (may be required to provide input into program development)
  • Submit an annual performance review

Requirements for the position

  • PhD in Entrepreneurship or Management with strong emphasis in Entrepreneurship or related business discipline is required
  • Significant (at least 5 years desired Associate and Professor positions) documented entrepreneurial experience in business a huge plus
  • Prior teaching experience in a graduate or undergraduate program or corporate training
  • Ability and experience teaching across disciplines (e.g. marketing, sales management, international development, social and women empowerment, microfinance, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience teaching classes via distance learning a big plus

Requirements for the Position

  • Hold a PhD degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information systems, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Information Technology Management or a closely related field
  • Have a proven record of substantial academic publications in reputable research outlets such as journals and leading international conferences in the domain.
  • Have a record of thesis/dissertation supervision at the Masters and Doctoral level with evidence of completion and successful supervision of students.
  • Prior teaching experience in a graduate program and corporate training is expected
  • Registration with national and international professional bodies in the core domain is a must
  • Evidence of awards and recognitions, patents and copyrighted works is an advantage.
  • Ability and experience teaching across disciplines (e.g. Computer science, software engineering, Information systems.) is a plus.
  • Experience of American educational system is aplus.

  • AUN is seeking a motivated Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or full Professor in Communication & Media Studies in the department of Communication & Multimedia Design (CMD) who will be responsible for and contribute towards preparing students to be applied, critical thinkers and problem solvers through innovative teaching, research, and community service as may be requested by the Dean.
  • S/he will contribute to the department’s administration and work closely with the Chair and Dean of the school in formulating and implementing course structures that would translate to effective teaching and learning of courses in line with the development philosophy of the American University of Nigeria, while also carrying out and disseminating high quality research and community services.

Person Specification
Essential:

  • PhD in Communication & Multimedia Designor related discipline.

  • AUN is seeking a motivated Graphic Artist and Multimedia Design Specialist who will be responsible for producing infographics, creative and technical illustrations, graphics and visual materials for academic and marketing purposes. The duties shall include but not limited to working closely with the technical team in Communications and Multimedia Design (CMD) program and Communications & PR Office to create and manipulate graphic images using graphic design software packages (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc.) within the AUN style guidelines.
  • The position holder may be assigned teaching assistantship responsibilities to help guide Multimedia Design students with their practical graphic and multimedia design work. The incumbent shall also ensure the safety and security of equipment at the CMD Multimedia Design lab and studios and ensure that the usage of these labs and studios by students is in accordance with the University’s laboratory standard operating procedures. The position holder is also expected to contribute to the department’s administration and carry out any other responsibilities as may be assigned by Multimedia Design Course Instructors or Program Chair.

Qualifications, Experience and other Requirements for the position

  • A good Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Design, Fine Arts, Media Studies or related field from recognized tertiary institution
  • Three to five years post NYSC experience in Graphic Design, preferably on multimedia infographics and/or technical illustration/graphics

  • AUN is seeking a motivated Radio, Television and Multimedia Studios Custodian who will have custodial responsibilities for all the equipment and facilities in the radio, television and multimedia design studios of its Communication and Multimedia Design (CMD) program. The position holder will keep up to date records and inventory of all equipment and facilities in the studios, and monitor their use by faculty, staff and students at all times. The incumbent shall also ensure the safety and security of equipment at each of the facilities and ensure that the usage of the facilities by students, faculty and staff is in accordance with the University’s laboratory standard operating procedures. The position holder is also expected to carry out any other responsibilities as may be assigned by Multimedia Design Course Instructors or Program Chair.

Qualifications, Experience and other Requirements

  • A good bachelor’s degree/HND or National Diploma (ND) in Mass Communication, Media Studies, Electronics, or related subjects
  • At least 2 years’ experience in similar capacity or related responsibilities
