Assistant Psychologist at Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative

Mentally Aware Nigeria is founded on two core beliefs: first, that all possible steps should be taken to alleviate stigma and the suffering arising from it, caused by ignorance and an unbelievable silence and negligence towards the health of the mind, from federal setups down to the locales; and second, that it becomes known that those affected by this disaster (as depicted in the first point), have a right to life with dignity and therefore a right to assistance.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Assistant Psychologist

Location: Lagos Mainland, Lagos

Role Description

• This is a full-time, on-site role for an Assistant Psychologist based in Lagos State, Nigeria. The Assistant Psychologist will provide psychological support across MANI’s programs, working directly with service users, volunteers, and partner stakeholders.
• The role involves supporting assessments, delivering psychoeducation, co-facilitating interventions, and contributing to research, monitoring, and evaluation activities.
• The Assistant Psychologist will also assist in awareness campaigns and advocacy efforts to promote mental health and reduce stigma in the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of mental health services under the supervision of the Clinical Psychologist.
• Assist in crisis intervention and hotline response.
• Contribute to developing and implementing intervention strategies and resources.
• Provide guidance and supervision support to volunteers and counselling teams.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold professional ethics.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

• Promote a culture of safeguarding by ensuring that all online interactions are respectful and safe.
• Ensure to protect the dignity and privacy of individuals, particularly those with lived experience of mental health issues.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (Master’s degree is an advantage).
• 1–2 years’ experience in mental health service delivery, counselling, or applied psychology.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently when required.
