Job Title: Billing Coordinator
Location: Remote / Work From Home (100% Remote Opportunity)
Job Type: Full-time
Shift: 8-hour standard shift; may range from 8am EST – 10pm EST (2pm to 4am WAT)
(Primary shift: 8am – 4:30pm EST, based on company needs) (2pm to 10:30pm WAT)
Job Summary
- We are looking for a solutions-driven billing professional who understands payer rules, claims submission, insurance verification, denial management, and credentialing in a behavioral health setting.
- The right candidate will help optimize revenue cycle outcomes, reduce denials, and ensure accuracy across all financial and billing-related processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and submit claims for mental health and medical services to insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and private payers
- Track and manage outstanding claims, denials, and reimbursements
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, and all federal/state billing regulations
- Conduct insurance eligibility and benefit verifications
- Generate patient invoices and manage payment plans when necessary
- Maintain thorough documentation in billing and EHR systems (e.g., DrChrono, AdvancedMD, Athenahealth)
- Identify trends in billing issues and recommend solutions to improve processes
- Perform timely follow-up on unpaid or underpaid claims and manage appeals
- Collaborate with clinicians and administrative staff to resolve billing discrepancies and documentation gaps
- Stay up to date with industry changes, payer requirements, and coding standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, IT, Communications, Social Work, Business Administration, Medical Billing & Claims Processing
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint and OneDrive).
- Experience with Electronic Medical/Health Records (EMR/EHR)
- Call Center and healthcare experience is a plus, but training will be provided
- 3+ years of billing experience in a mental health, behavioral health, or healthcare setting (required)
- Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) —preferred
Skills & Competencies

- Strong Internet Connectivity (Mandatory)
- Personal device/laptop (Mandatory)
- Strong computer literacy.
Role-Specific Skills:
- Deep understanding of payer systems, mental health CPT codes, modifiers, and documentation requirements
- Expertise in denial management and claims resolution
- Highly organized and able to work independently or within a team
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial transactions
- Ability to identify and resolve billing issues proactively
- Solutions-focused attitude with the ability to work under pressure.
- Proficient in EHR and practice management platforms (e.g., DrChrono, Athenahealth, or similar)
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally with internal teams, patients, insurers, and service providers
