Job Description

The Data Scientist is responsible for analyzing and turning large amounts of raw data into valuable insights that an organization needs in order to find patterns that will help improve a project and yield overall growth for the company. In this role, you should be highly analytical with a knack for analysis, math and statistics.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills combined with a passion for machine-learning and research are essential for interpreting data.

Responsibilities

Identify valuable data sources and automate collection processes
Use strong business acumen, as well as an ability to communicate fundings, and mine vast amounts of data for useful insights
Undertake data collection, pre/processing analysis of structured and unstructured available datasets to discover trends and patterns
Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns to be used to influence how an organization approaches business challenges
Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms and create presentations using data visualization techniques
Work closely with your business to identify issues and use data to propose solutions for effective decision making
Conduct research from which you'll develop prototypes and proof of concepts
Look for opportunities to use insights/datasets/code/models across other functions in the organisation (for example in the HR and marketing departments)
Communicate important information, recommendations and insights to business and IT leaders
Have a combined knowledge and experience of computer science, applications modeling, statistics, analytics and math to solve problems and provide solutions
Build algorithms and design experiments to merge, manage, interrogate and extract data to supply tailored reports to colleagues, customers or the wider organization
Use machine learning tools and statistical techniques to produce solutions to problems
Test data mining models to select the most appropriate ones for use on a project
Maintain clear and coherent communication, both verbal and written, to understand data needs and report results
Create clear reports that tell compelling stories about how customers or clients work with the business
Assess the effectiveness of data sources and data-gathering techniques and improve data collection methods

Requirements and Skills

BSc / BA in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field; graduate degree in Data Science or other quantitative field is preferred
3+ years experience as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst
Experience in data mining
Monte Carlo Simulation knowledge
Strong math skills (e.g. statistics, algebra)
Problem-solving aptitude and analytical mind
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Experience with political campaign
Understanding of machine-learning and operations research
Knowledge of R, SQL and Python (humpy, pandas,keras, sci-kite learn, spark); familiarity with Scala, Java or C++ is an asset
Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau) and data frameworks (e.g. Hadoop)
