Job Title: Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Officer

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

  • We are seeking to hire an experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Officer with related HSE professional bodies certification.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementation of environmental and social safeguards plans and requirements and update these plans when necessary
  • Coordinate the rollout of capacity-building activities to improve waste management in supported facilities, as well as overseeing the installation of waste treatment units
  • Draft site-specific environmental and social management plans (ESMPs) for project sub activities where relevant
  • Develop and implement procedures to establish and maintain a safe working environment without risk to health at all workplaces, machinery, equipment and processes under the control of the Contractor, including control measures for chemical, physical and biological substances and agents
  • Provide health and safety training of all personnel as appropriate and maintain training records
  • Actively engage in promoting understanding and methods for implementation of health and safety requirements , as well as providing information and personal protective equipment
  • Update the ESMPs for diesel fuel supply, waste treatment units and others, when necessary
  • Improve tools and processes for stakeholder engagement, including grievance redress mechanisms, workshops with health facility managers, and analysis of beneficiary survey data, and update the stakeholder engagement plan (SEP) regularly
  • Comply with all applicable health and safety regulations and laws
  • Comply with all applicable health and safety obligations specified in the Contract

Requirements

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in Environmental Science, Engineering, Physical / Natural Sciences (or related field)
  • Certification with related HSE professional bodies
  • A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience with at least 3 years in power sector
  • Capacity to conduct and/or guide the process of preparation of ESMP/ESIA.
