Sahei Gender Development Initiative, was formally known and called Sanitation and hygiene education initiative (SGDI). The organization is a Nigerian non-governmental and not-for-profit making organization incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in November 2014. It is an organization that facilitates, advocates, and raises awareness for access to improved services among vulnerable individuals. The organization focuses in the areas of WASH, Protection/GBV, Empowerment/livelihood, Waste Management, Health/Nutrition, Climate Change and Peace Building. The organization has experienced staff that are equipped with knowledge, skills to response when the need arises. The organizations staff can work all over the liberated LGAs of Borno State.

The organization was established to promote well-being of individuals and alleviate the suffering of conflict affected people and the vulnerable groups of people in Northeastern Nigeria. In pursuit of its mission, the Organization works with partners to execute programs aimed at improving the livelihood and living standards of vulnerable children, women and girls, men, widows, internally displaced persons, and persons living with disabilities.

Job Summary

• The GBV and MHPSS Officer is responsible for integrating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) components into all aspects of project activities, ensuring that protection principles are effectively mainstreamed in Gujba.
• The officer provides technical guidance on GBV and MHPSS programming, coordinates related assessments, and supports the development and implementation of strategies that safeguard the safety, dignity, and rights of vulnerable populations.
• He/She collaborates closely with community stakeholders, implementing partners, and relevant government agencies to identify protection risks, develop mitigation measures, and ensure that all project interventions adhere to international humanitarian protection standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation and Coordination:

• Lead the implementation of GBV and MHPSS activities in line with project objectives, donor requirements, and organizational policies.
• Conduct regular protection risk assessments to identify GBV and psychosocial concerns among affected populations.
• Integrate GBV prevention, response, and MHPSS principles into all project activities.
• Ensure referral pathways for survivors of GBV and individuals in need of psychosocial support are functional, confidential, and survivor-centered.
• Work closely with the Protection Manager to develop and monitor GBV and MHPSS work plans and budgets.

Coordination and Networking:

• Represent the organization in GBV and MHPSS coordination forums and working groups.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, community leaders, and service providers.
• Support referrals and linkages between survivors and appropriate service providers, including health, legal, and livelihood services.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:

• Contribute to the design and implementation of GBV and MHPSS monitoring tools.
• Collect and analyze data to measure progress against indicators and inform program improvement.
• Prepare timely and accurate activity reports, success stories, and case studies.

Case Management and Psychosocial Support:

• Provide direct psychosocial support and case management to GBV survivors and individuals with MHPSS needs in line with standard operating procedures.
• Supervise and mentor case workers and community-based volunteers providing MHPSS services.
• Facilitate group counseling, psychosocial activities, and awareness sessions at community level.
• Maintain accurate and confidential case documentation and ensure data protection and ethical standards are observed.

 Capacity Building:

• Organize and facilitate training for staff, volunteers, and community members on GBV prevention, response, and psychosocial support.
• Strengthen the capacity of community protection structures to respond to GBV incidents and psychosocial needs.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Gender Studies, Sociology, Public Health, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
• Strong understanding of GBV guiding principles, protection frameworks, and MHPSS approaches.
• Familiarity with community-based protection and humanitarian coordination mechanisms.
• 3 - 5 years of experience in GBV prevention and response, MHPSS programming, or protection in humanitarian or development settings.
• Proven experience providing case management and psychosocial support services.

Skills and Competencies:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency in report writing and data management.
• Fluency in English required; knowledge of Hausa or other local languages is an asset.
• Demonstrated commitment to gender equality, protection, and humanitarian principles.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and in insecure environments.
